Airport Chaos Europe

If you didn't notice, there are big delays on the airport Amsterdam and around Europe. 3 weeks ago i arrived after 12 hour delay and after buying new tickets at Manchester i could fly further *3 times more expensive). Last weeks 5 hours waiting line, outside in the rain, at Amsterdam Airport.

And today KLM didn't bring any passengers to flights to Amsterdam, cause it is too busy. They flied from EU destinations to Schiphol empty. And they don't think it will be solved next month when holiday season start.

Better avoid flying in Europe this summer.

Happy holidays!

No plans to fly anywhere, it's very bad for the environment anyway.

SekobA 06-05-2022 01:24 AM

Sorry to hear, I was checking for flights to some summer destination and it was full for the next 3 months

The United States is having similar issues.

During the pandemic airlines let go of a lot of people which made sense because people weren't flying. A lot of pilots went into retirement. Now that the pandemic is over everyone is traveling, and the airlines are scrambling to find employees which is proving to be very difficult.

At least you can get a compensation if it's not 'vis maior'..

Quote:

Your plane is delayed if you reach your destination at least 3 hours later than the original scheduled time. You are entitled to compensation.

The compensation due in case of delay depends on the distance of the flight. It is:

250€ for flights up to 1500 kilometers,
400€ for flights between 1500 and 3500 km,
600€ beyond 3500 km, provided that you are at least 4 hours late (300 € for a delay between 3 and 4 hours).

people are saying they´re feeling like hostages in the airports, those delayed aren´t allowed to leave as they´ve checked in past security, so they have to stay there in the airport until staff arrive and there isn´t any staff for companies like easyjet and Wizz air...

Alicante hasn´t too many disruptions, but seems like the problems are all starting from the UK :2 cents:

General in Europe many industries searching for stuff. Tourism is a vast industry and companies have a huge problem, also like here in Greece, restaurants, hotels, clubs, etc on islands searching for stuff. After the Covid period I see many open jobs but no people for them.

Everywhere are problems, UK and Holland are worst.
I was looking to go to Gaelic Conference in Dublin in 2 weeks.
But decided to skip it cause of all the problems.

fuzebox 06-09-2022 08:08 AM

Just had 5 legs through europe, I guess I was lucky as the airports were pretty quiet, the discount airlines were all delayed about 30 minutes but no real problems.

Canada, more specifically Toronto airport has been a nightmare. I’ve been putting off some travel till it’s sorted out.

LemonAD 06-10-2022 02:21 AM

What surprised me recently was a plane waiting for people who were late.
So flight was already 30 minutes delayed, because plane hadn't arrived in time. And after that all passengers were forced to wait on board for 2 people who were late. I mean... is it a bus? If people don't care to make it even for a delayed flight, then probably they should take the next one

BaldBastard 06-10-2022 03:46 AM

12 weeks for a passport and 6 hour check-ins in Sydney.

Just came back from Milano, super busy with little delays

Evil Chris 06-10-2022 07:52 AM

I went through Schipol twice last week and had no problems at all.
Maybe I got lucky?

Seems like you did get lucky, went through Schiphol twice and it was a big mess both times. KLM also cancelled my connecting flight to Schiphol on the 10th and rebooked me for a flight one day earlier but only advised me 5 hours before that flight was due to leave. Jumped in a car, drove 2 hours and barely made it to that first flight to Schiphol. Lucky I had no plans

FreeOnes 06-11-2022 11:32 AM

They don't want you to fly anymore and here it's. Less flights, big delays and expensive tickets.

Tasty1 06-12-2022 01:53 AM

When i fly back to Mexico i even take a hotel in London 1 or 2 nights. Cause i think there is 75% change i lose my connecting flights with "only" 4 hours between them. Just like last time. So i will be a day early in London. And i might even take the train to London from Amsterdam so i am sure that i will be in London that day. But now in Holland the trains also have delays and some routes stopped cause they have a shortage of working people.....

Well it's over now, I've been traveling and everything is back to normal, and masks aren't necessary anymore.

No it isn't.
It's Spain, Netherlands, Ireland and the US is also struggling.

You shut an industry down for two years, treat the staff like shit, and expect them to come back to work. They found better jobs.

Brexit cannot be the blame for everything.

Tasty1 06-13-2022 03:54 AM

Now it is more quiet (holiday over), but this was still low season. In July everyone goes on holiday.

If everyone paid 10 cents extra for their lugage the job could be paid better. If you see how much they make and that you need a car and house near Amsterdam, you understand they need 2 jobs at Schiphol to be able to pay the rent and live normal. You only make 13 - 14 euro an hour as security worker at Schiphol, and than you need to pay taxes. PS, they also find out that working in airplane smog isn't good for your health.

Still can't fly to the US unvaccinated. Didn't need a mask flying from Mexico to UK some weeks ago.
