I sometimes miss trynna make PNGs work.
I remember 20 years ago, the "major" pain in the ass I thought it was to deal with 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions.
IE 6, 7 , 8 causing me nightmares. Round corners were an issue, and PNG's needed a hack to work! Here we are 20 years later, and there's INFINITE screen sizes and 2343124 other different variables. sometimes I do miss the 'good ol days' I've gone from ulead master, to photoshop king.. CSS master to Full stack dev, and its just getting more and more fucked up to deal with hahahahah Anyone else miss exporting sliced photoshop images for big coin lol - seems so easy in retrospect. :1orglaugh |
I rather spend hours debbugging PHP code then dealing with css or any other design alignment :1orglaugh

CSS is a joke. SCOPE issues, make my brain melt. that shits way worse than a misaligned div. :1orglaugh |

I also miss jquery... I mean its still in typical stacks, but Its been years since Ive really just been able to bang some genius shit out with that.
Fucking build scripts, grunt, gulp, webpack , react, vue - ruining all my fun. I do really miss just FTPing in and fucking with live code... for fun every now and then I'll do it on a live site to make the juniors cry - works like a charm. |

I 100% do not miss IE6.

ImageReady brings back so many memories! I could do all of my own html and didn't need a programmer. The good old days ;)

You folks are tripping!
CSS is the best shit ever. If you are tripping about screen sizes then maybe you don't use media queries enough. :2 cents: |

I still use jQuery as well. 15 years in and I still chuckle at how easy jQuery makes my life. Why switch if I already like what I use and it works wonderfully for anything I need to do. With my most recent project however I switched from jQuery's AJAX to use the native JS method fetch() instead.
CSS3 is amazing as is. You can do animations, filtering, and all kind of creative shit that you previously had to use JS for. And now with grid and flex you don't even need to use media queries anymore. |

When you go quasi-responsive (fixed dimensions within breakpoints), this isn't much of an issue. |
I miss Basic language. That was the bomb in 1983 with my IBM PC jr. :1orglaugh

I inadvertently went from making easy money slicing photoshop images, to running a team of 20 developers, spending my days deep in logic and code and build scripts, and git, and Jirra and everything just fucking ballooned on me hahah Reminiscing of simpler days! |

I loved ImageReady and SmallerAnimals. I could rough out something useful and then have somebody else make it look really good. Now I'm reduced to cell phone pics of stick figures and Figma. |

Honestly, as a publicist that started in the AVN art department, what bugs me is you could count on a general size to submit art at for about anything, like 640x480. Now it feels the adult news sites don't even know what size their photos are supposed to be (thankfully I get a heads up from AVN now and again on their size preferences.
At one point, I could just do a screencap at 100%, and use that as a template, but even that doesn't really work anymore. |

we hear u bro! as you can see, this place is mostly developers now... # |

I had a variable drying me fucking insane. Ive been investigating a new stack ( laravel , livewire , alpine ) and over all it's great, but every now and then it throws ya thro a loop. Lost 8 hours trynna get an image path, because I forgot to type hint a variable. absolute garbage week. |

What a gigantic bloated mess for anything in adult that I've seen. Makes Wordpress look like a "Hello World script". :helpme |
Quote:
Anyway, your comparison to wordpress shows you have no idea what you're talking about, as per usual. It's only bloated if you don't know how to use it. |

You did some work for me back in 06. Still have all the sliced png images of the layout to this day! |

I have every piece of work Ive ever done on an old HDD in my hutch. Hope you are well man! I recall your user name for sure. |

I dont do 'full' responsive shit anymore, snap points are where it's at, for my own sanity. |

Tho, I am curious to see what error photoshop produces when I try to open a 15 year old file lol. |

WHen I think about returning to adult my first thought is to slit my wrists. But on the flip side, I see the talent thats available here.. and its' bleak. Same ol designers pumping out trash, no innovation, nothing new happening in adult in years. Ive often wondered what a return would look like.. I expect it would be lucrative, and easy to kill the competition, no one has evolved since I left this biz, lots of old timers with zero talent. |

you think you can compete with guys making money every day in adult? its not as easy as you think. the tech is not nearly as important as traffic and connections. all of us have played with the latest languages and tech. i've built a skype clone, dropbox clone, cloud and cdn networks. i've built internal systems for massive companies and telcos. what you can sell is much more valuable than what you know :winkwink: # |

Im not shitting on Adult, I just didnt enjoy freelance, and quite enjoy a mainstream, full time gig. Freelance, is what makes me want to slit my wrists ;) to clarify. Consistency is a god send. At least I know what im waking up to tomorrow, which was never the case freelancing. |

a lot happens all the time tho, just not much happens in adult tech. new clients, new customers and demographics, new niches. that's the interesting part that keeps most people in the industry. # |

I've never had a client message me increasingly nasty messages at 5 and 6 in the morning cause they were high on Xanax and deleted the index.php from their server.. Stuff like that was unique to adult. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh |
Lol, spliced PSD's were the shit! :1orglaugh
I also kinda miss those epic iframe sidebars. Those were the best. :pimp Yeah, somehow the backend development became the quick and easy part these days instead of the other way around. Oh well, hard knock life, it is! Edit: Just remembered "they" used to publish books on building HTML sites aimed at 12 year old kids, back in the day. (I know, because my parents got me one about 25-ish years ago, lol)... times (and CSS) sure have changed. |

It's easy to take pot shots at the average GFY user, but the thing keeping you from striking it rich in adult isn't the fact that it's simply below you :1orglaugh -coming from a developer who pivoted to generating millions of dollars in revenue through the most simple of sites |
Quote:
Tho I do have many years of experience in adult, and a bunch of clients that Im sure would be happy to hear that I've made a return. And to be clear, Ive never stated adult was 'below me' I've said it's stagnant and the it seems possible a return could be a lucrative one, no reason for the average GFY'er to be offended. I know freehugemovies is just dying to hire me!:1orglaugh That said, I really don't see it in my future. :1orglaugh |

look at how many nube threads get started by people who never come back or never make a single dollar in adult. its easy to hide out and be mediocre in mainstream. every corporate website has a huge team. the front-end alone is now split up between a dozen different titles. all cogs in a machine. in adult you are on your own and your earnings are totally up to you. # |
