No way that scam works. Waiters depend on tips. You think they're going to let you not pay them directly, especially after a big meal like that? Also, how do you go about paying a waiter who didn't serve you? Not every restaurant is going to just let you walk up to the register and pay a check without first confirming it with the water who served you.
Interesting, but total bullshit.

It's / I'm in the UK. Tipping, other than 'Keep the change' (less than a £) just doesn't happen. Even when its 'keep the change' its more of, a 'I don't want the small coins in my pocket' than a gratuity like they leave in America. We certainly NEVER leave a '%' over here... It's just simply never done.
Reason being, is that the servers are paid a full living wage for working. They are not paid a pittance and expected to 'make up the difference' via tips.
I can assure you this really DOES work, as I've done it myself virtually every time I've been in London. That's the only caveat. You need to be in a big city where you are not recognised. You obviously can't do it at your local cafe...
Like I said, I thought it was kinda 'my secret' as I've done it so often without consequences... I was genuinely surprised to see it being explained in detail, on youtube... :2 cents:
