Whats your favorite household gadget?

Whats the one gadget youve purchased for your home that you couldnt survive without now that you've purchased it?

For me it the EggPod (I cant make boiled eggs and peel them to save my life) and my Roomba.

What gadget for your house could you not live without now that you've purchased and used it?

jscott 08-14-2022 12:09 PM

Oh those robomop things are BADASS! Had one and we LOVED it, but after about 6mos it broke, and the company didn't honor the warranty :(

Other than that, hmmm, maybe the Keurig for quick coffee when in a rush.

Does a fleshlight count as household gadget?

I have a variety of kitchen gadgets. They are all good, but for the most part stay in the cabinets.

A good knife and large cutting board get the most use. Oh and love my trustee cast-iron 12 inch.

My best friend growing up (he passed away) had Osteogenesis imperfecta. Wheelchair bound and back then, all he ever wanted was see-through pots and pans because the stove was too high for him to look into the pan.

Two things I never thought I'd use as often as I do - Ninja Blender and the Ninja multi-cooker.

I use silpat mats for cooking instead of aluminum or parchment paper, they really are a game-changer, cook you rfood then toss them in the dishwasher.

Im currently eyeing up some silocone baking trays / pans, they're pricier than I expected them to be but I'm sure they'll be just as good as the siplat mats.

Thats something on my 'would be nice' list but honestly, I just dont see the difference between an airfryer and a convection oven other than the size?

Can you use then to cover a baking dish?

You can, theyre flexible enough (with the right size) that theyll fold slightly over the top of the dish.

More than anything I use them to cover bowls that have bread dough that needs to rise though.

They also work well as a splatter guard when using a skillet too :)

I can't believe I never thought of that!

My wheelchair has an elevation feature. I can raise it to the point where my eyes are level with someone that's around 5 foot 5. It's pretty slick. When someone is cooking and I want to see in the pot, I raise as high as I can go and it works pretty good, but your clear idea would be awesome!

Pyrex make a line of glass pots and pans, my grandmother had them since as far back as I can remember, and its all she used to cook with, they have a slight brown tint to them but theyre definitely see thru :)

We have Alexa in every room of the house, both garages, and in the car. It's become indispensable. It controls the lights, the fans, our AC / heater, alarms, news, music....

VSSL handheld travel coffee grinder, will decimate 8g of coffee in under 20 seconds. I like it better than my big powerful electric home grinder. Very solid well built piece of equipment, I take it on all trips.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Thermomix
https://www.thermomix.com/

My wife started cooking alot more when we got this. It's like a mixer/blender but has cooking functionality and a scale and a little screen that tells you step by step how much of each ingredient to add (and weighs it for you as you add). Soups are super easy to make, sauces, chili, spaghetti, it can even steam chicken wings. You can also put in ice and it'll mix cocktails for you telling you how much of each type of alcohol to add.

jscott 08-18-2022 01:37 AM

.. also the Sodastream

I want one.

wtf :1orglaugh

place eggs in boiling water in pan on hob, a cheat to stop cracking, add squirt of vinegar into water before lowering eggs in.

Boil for 4 mins for soft boiled and 8 mins for hard, then pour cold water straight into pan and leave for a moment with cold water.

tap egg on side and peel, all in one, the shell is removed :thumbsup

no cleaning, no mess, no microwave, no stress :2 cents:

There is no difference, an air fryer is a small convection oven. So easy and convenient. Get one, you'll see.

Unfortunately, having diabetic neuropathy in my right hand, makes it difficult to peel the egg itself without gouging huge chunks of the egg itself while peeling.

The EggPod means I simply have to shake it a few times and the egg pops right out of the shell, whole and intact :)

It's the same thing except it rotates the round platter and mixes the food with a little arm.

It's absolutely an old guy thing. Me and my friends 15 years ago were all 'check out this bitch i fucked last night', now we're talking about my new sweet ass lawn mower and how easily the pull start fires it up.

I actually don't mind scooping the litter, just one of my cats has VERY furry paws and she tracks (clean) bits of litter all over the floor near the box. she's smart so I should prolly put down a mat and teach her to wipe her feet

empathetic with your situation, for others, a jar works well, i use cleaned used jam jars to remove the layers from garlic and for boiled eggs, this works the same, shaking the sealed jar vigorously.

save cleaning that huge thing out :thumbsup

Also tried one of these, you have to use a non-clumping litter and my cat was not really into it. Back to scooping.

Also tried this one, more trouble than it was worth.
