Best hosting for my business?
 

What web hosting would you guys recommend for my business? I'm creating personal sites for models where they can sell their content via subscriptions and tips. I will manage the hosting on their behalf for a monthly fee so I need to be able to quote them a price.

What's the best way to secure content and keep bandwidth costs as low as possible for models? I know AWS & Digital Ocean have signed urls that expire to prevent link sharing. AWS pricing is too confusing and expensive though. Digital Ocean seems more reasonable.

Are there any adult hosting services out there that can offer signed urls to prevent link sharing?.

yea it depends on your revenue projections and cash reserves. the excessively recommended host on this thread will burn your budget quick, which means you better start making those girls some money quick.

most paysites take a minimum of 18 months to get rolling. if the models are bringing their own traffic, that's superb. if you have to build it, give yourself some time and breathing room. models will want to see a return on their money within weeks if they are dishing it out.

Right, yeah, that's why we have literally won every award for more than a dozen years for hosting service. Also, why we have over a thousand adult companies as customers... because we are over-priced with no value proposition. All those awards I have for Businessman of the Year, Hall of Fame, CEO of the Year, Community Figure of the Year, Progressive Business, Best Business Service and other things must clearly be because I have ill-advised the thousands of companies I have worked with since 1999? Oh wait, yeah, I bet it's because I buy a lot of drinks and have done some advertising over the years, right? Must be that bro club, right? Isn't that what people like to fall back on when they don't get recognized?

I grew my business one customer at a time with hard work and never wronged anybody or lied to anyone. That is why we have a great reputation and tremendous client success.

When is the last time you gave back anything to the industry? one of it's charities? moderated hundreds of panels? How many hundreds of startups have you taken under your wings and supported when there business couldn't support itself? How many businesses have you kept online when they couldn't pay their bills? You judge a company not by how they treat you when everything is going great, but by how they treat you when you need them the most.

i'm a logic guy, so its hard to respond to such an emotional mess of a post, but i will try to respond to key points (not sales fluff)..

your marketing and sales budget and activity are squarely the reason for the response in this thread. it seems to be a winning strategy in this little industry.

however, your "awards" are a result of going to every conference and having drinks with the people who vote for these things. to brag about awards is pretty silly, when the services side of this business IS a popularity contest. you, of all people, should know that.

its not professional to have a vendor preference? that opinion is either monopolistic or butthurt. i can't tell lol.

i've worked with your service and your setup is not friendly to developers. that's the whole long and short of my opinion about your service. i need to get a job done. if a host is making that difficult, you can be "convinced" that i won't "like" them.

i've managed servers at every major dedicated host in the world. i've administered and maintained thousands of servers in my career, which was not always in porn. i'm not a nube, buts its fine if you need to target them. that's your fucking business. my clients and my projects just don't need your service.

It is pretty disappointing and disturbing at the same time to badmouth MojoHost or Brad.

The statement above is simply false - I am telling you this after 5 years with Mojo in the past - I left them for several years and went back when I needed their managed solution again.

I have Very Very good memories with Mojo, even made friends with some of the techs - not sure if anyone remembers Nat Pike for example..

Of course, I had bad experience as well, but human errors are everywhere, and I had WAY MORE positive experience with Mojo than problematic.

I have no problems with Brad's image, I believe he is doing it right, and that there is quality service (and a quality person) behind the marketing, funny shirts and drinks. :pimp

That said, I am sure that there are other hard working owners with numerous quality hosting services, and probably you are one of them as well, I guess you had a bad day and overreacted things in this thread.

If I have to mention a smaller but surely quality hosting business here, I would recommend Vacares by Sly. :2 cents::thumbsup:pimp

managed k8s on aws

We do managed Kubernetes on private clouds that we build here and it's incredibly compelling by comparison to AWS and other providers, truly a fraction of the price. While we don't market it on the web site, we have been doing this for 5+ years already.

every web developer and server admin here has worked with dozens of hosts. Mojo did a good job of capturing a small marketshare of the adult hosting business, thru relentless marketing and sales, but its not a top tier host. they don't have 100k+ servers and a thousand+ techs on staff 24/7. they don't have facilities all over the world. they rent cabinets in someone else's building. comparing their setup to AWS is hilarious.

anyways, that's all well and good. congrats to Brad for working so hard and building a decent hosting business. it seems like a solid and stable business in the industry. but i'm sure as fuck not going to worship Mojo just because they can sell and market. its a small managed hosting company targeting a very small industry. maybe they are good at their job, which is great, but its still an overpriced service in my mind, and difficult to work with for a full stack developer.

i've explained my very professional non-emotional experience and opinion, which unfortunately for their sales team, is not an endorsement in my particular situation. i guess the cheerleader is never happy when someone doesn't worship them :1orglaugh
