hey y'all

so I have a VERY good, trusted friend who is a brilliant artist. his paintings are incredible, only prob is I wouldn't even know he was an artist if we weren't friends

he's just starting to learn how to market his artwork/talent and the yt vids he's been watching are mostly irrelevant to him. he's not selling digital goods, shipping costs are insanely expensive in JA and aside from WU or Moneygram, online payment options are non-existent. govs here have massively neglected basic infrastructure, including the online realm

his target is local peeps and tourists, the latter of which as of now would not know anything about how seriously he takes his craft

he's creating a new biz card (bigger than a usual biz card, thumbnail pics of some of his work, contact info etc) to set out at places where local peeps and tourists hang out

all he has right now is an email address and phone number

in the context of getting his name and talent out there, I suggested creating insta and twitter accounts, plus a YT channel showing the process of his creations, inspirations, that kinda thing

but also an OF. a free one which I get he needs to market himself, but an additional layer of credibility. he's been ripped off too many times so now requests 50% cash upfront

he does a lot of day labor to pay the bills and travels all over the island, underpaid, covered in rashes and mosquito bites when he comes home. we hook up and he usually sleeps at least 11 hours the first night, so tired and fed up with the bullshit

twitter, YT and insta were easy to set up, but I'm NO help with OF as I'm not on it. honestly confusing AF

I'm gonna build him a small website with all his contact info and samples of his work (for credibility that he's not fly by night on this), but again, figuring out how to get people to pay attention to how serious he is. figure OF might help with that, to add to his credibility

He needs to do prints and sell them on Shopify etc. Everything funnels down to a store and Gofundme.

What sorts of themes or subjects are in his work?

I never even thought of the shopify thing, will suggest he look into that. but again, targeting a local audience, on the ground here. Jamaicans and tourists. not kidding how expensive shipping is, in or out


he actually does pretty well selling his works, just not enough to steadily pay the bills and get ahead. covid fuckery absolutely decimated this economy, it's on its way back back so the time is now ya know?

he doesn't want to live payment to payment, but actually makes more off his art than his 'labor' work (they hire him for tradework then pay labour wages, assuming they actually pay at all that is). the system here is really fucked

his main art jobs recently have been hotels sprucing up since covid travel restrictions have been lifted, doing wall murals and such on their buildings out in Montego Bay

but has a vast array of portraits, abstracts, stuff out of his imagination, commissions based on what a client (corp or individual) wants. right now he's working on a huge canvas of our galaxy commissioned by a client. super-fucking talented

nothing erotic, or rather nothing explicit

do y'all think a free OF to highlight his work would help?

This is his best bet. Build a social media following and funnel them to his store. If he is looking to offer private commissions then there are other platforms better suited than OF. Patreon comes to mind or direct payments through Cashap, Venmo, PayPal.

Edit: He can also check out the other artist platforms as well for example deviantart.com.

Also check out buymeacoffee.com

There are just so many better options for him and others, when it comes to mainstream creators, than OF.

I cut my toe nails in live mode on OnlyFans.

If I was him (I presume it is a male), set up a WP (word press) site on his own domain.

Use this as a hub.

From this, ass links to his twitter and Instagram and so on.

I would suggest he sets up a Patreon.com account.

The ideal situation would be to find an art gallery local to him that would sell his stuff.

Pinterest as a channel too

OF is the worst platform for this guy, you're trying to cram a square peg in a round hole. The internet is built for creators like him and OF is basically fringe.

yeah, thanks to replies in this thread and PM's (much love S, you're fucking brilliant, you too Purple socks) I've gotten that OF is not the best avenue for him

that's why I appreciate the input from y'all so much, never promoted anything but cam shows/clips/etc which is an international, online audience

mainstream is totally out of my range of experience. I do own a mainstream biz but it's basically turn key, bought it from his wife when the owner died with all contacts and clients already in place. the new clients (restaurants, kiosks and hotels) I've acquired since are word of mouth or face to face, it's a local-oriented biz so the internet isn't relevant. it's word of mouth and reputation

so completely out of my depth in assisting my friend. immense gratitude to y'all again

he'll be over lata and I'll share this thread and the ideas from PMs with him. I told him gfy was a wicked community, no sense in him making an account here as aside from doing an occasional skype session with me he's strictly mainstream. but I already know in advance how delighted and appreciative he'll be by all the advice and suggestions
