Havec your sales rebounded yet?

Everybody was saying here that sales will pick up when people get back from summer vacations. Normally happens with me the very first week of September, but sales are even lower this week. People really are tightening their belts for the winter ahead, possibly?

NatalieK 09-15-2022 09:39 AM

I´ve not noticed a low on sales, i see sales everyday, today alone over $200 on sales. However, I have seen a few of my long term fans leaving, with saying they´ll be back, but leaving for a few months for reason such as "loss of job" and "paying many bills this month"...

so while business for me hasn´t changed much, you are right, priority of family well being or as you say "tightening up for the winter"...

yes, the world in general is in financial crisis :(

InfoGuy 09-15-2022 07:10 PM

Lower income consumers are stretched to their limits paying for food, electricity and gas. Over 60% of American households are living paycheck to paycheck. Wealthier consumers are cutting back due to the collapse in asset values, but still spending. And the economic situation in Europe is even more dire. For anyone whose target audience is freeloaders and they're not building new sites, adding content and increasing traffic, their sales are going to continue to go down.

fuzebox 09-15-2022 10:55 PM

When did they drop?

Well for me sales always slow in the summer and pick up immediately the first week of September. There was another thread here similar to this a few weeks ago and everybody was telling the OP to calm down, calm down, everybody is on vacation.

I think the infamous "summer slowdown" is from webmasters going on vacation. The global buying population doesn't just slow down because it's considered summer holiday this week in your area.

There was a time where GFYers would claim they'd get a Christmas sales boost because everyone got new computers and were trying them out :1orglaugh

July and August were record months for me.

Kaos_internet 09-16-2022 08:45 PM

There has been a slowdown in UK activity due to EII dying, should pick up after 19th

I'm sure there was a time when that was very true.

It was definitely true, guy is just stroking his own ego about porn in 2022 for some weird reason.

Even 20 years ago, it was always people who make 5-10 sales a day complaining about summer slowdown, not people making 100+.

I think asking GFY if "sales have rebounded" just shows passive laziness. If your traffic or sales are down, figure out why and fix it.

Probably less weird than the reason why you spend hours a day in the politics section :Oh crap

20 years ago it was far easier to recognize when things slowed down if you had 100+ sales a day. Which I did. :1orglaugh

I don't ever give a fuck why things are slow if I can't control them but for sure things dipped in the summer and exploded during Christmas break. There was nothing to fix, I fixed it by diversifying and now I have some mainstream things that slow down every month or two for a variety of reasons.

I only have piles of adult revshare now but spending is easy enough to track that way and there are still waves although not as pronounced.

I just can't believe you never actually noticed. You could probably go check historical stats and see. Remember if you dip 10 or 20% the guys with a few says a day go from sporadic to /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ :1orglaugh

Of course, but USA was the bulk of sales by a lot long ago.

it is curious why there's never been a big market for porn in Australia/NZ. i've got PornCMS clients in Australia and their sales don't come from that region.

Well, yes people making 100+ sales a day aren't going to be worrying so much about a slow down, unless they have a $5 million mortgage to pay or are buying all their traffic or such and have a low profit margin.

Several years ago I was having regular zero sale days, with quite an expensive rent to pay and fearing I'd be losing everything, so I've been rather scarred by that experience. It's not as if I'm on here 24 hours monitoring answers to my post instead of working hard to 'fix things'. I was really just curious to know if there were real signs that people are spending less due to the economy and the grim economic warnings. That's called forward planning for any business.

I assume there is indeed quite a marked summer slowdown, at least in the niches I promote, as nearly all the sponsor sites are having extended sales, far more than they every had previously. But I understand the reasons for it, and it's probably particular to my niche.

BTW, for the week after Christmas Day, I always average 3 to 4 times the average sales for the rest of the year.

None of us who make serious money are going to say anything worth while on GFY.

Some sponsors were "down" for me in the summer months but others picked up the slack by quite a lot. I've been doing this full time since 2004 and I don't recall ever having a "summer slowdown". I've just observed that the same reps and companies who complain about this go on vacation for 2 out of the 3 months in the summer. :)

digitalfantasies 09-19-2022 11:02 AM

I have never noticed summer slowdowns, but this year is crap. I'm hoping it's due to economy. Also would be interesting to see which geo's are affected for people who have seen drops this year.

I think a lot of people are not aware that google has been pretty active with updates and that many blame economy and not realizing their traffic is affected.

I've had traffic go up with the google updates but some of the best keywords and sales with it dropped.
So if you don't track all your converting terms it might look like your traffic is unchanged.

But i do see a drop in the spending of regular customers.

I'm talking cams only

I'm not actualy saying that there aren't global trends, ebbs and flows, superbowl-type events, etc, that don't have an affect on online sales.

What I was trying to say is that those rarely trickle down to low volume affiliates, and that if you are seeing a drop (or an increase!) it is more likely a result of your efforts rather than a global economic/social trend. If you make 5-10 sales a day, but in August you made 160 sales instead of 190, that is not a summer slowdown.

This is just an another example of my opposition to "passive affiliates" who create random sites, put up links, and hope for the best, rather than treating this like a business.

Australia is by far my most profitable geo. I wish there was more of them, the population is smaller than Texas.

Being a paysite and Program owner I do not see 'summer slowdown' BUT I do see that the two worst months for sales throughout the year are:

1. April
2. September
3. March

I have 10+ years of data to back these trends up. So why these three months, in this particular order?

1 - April: Tax season, duh.
2 - September: Back-to-school expenses, college students moving in, end of summer Holiday/vacation spending (all tapped out)
3 -: March: Lots of money-spending events going on, like Spring Break, March Madness (college basketball), opening of baseball season, St. Patrick's Day, and I'm probably leaving out a few.

Ride the waves and prepare for the upturns. :thumbsup
