Do bullshitters deserve to be exposed?
In the past month I used tons of people for different services, i.e. web design, banners, photo shoots, and tons of other stuff.
Right across the board 50% bullshitted me and missed their prommised deadline, and all had dramatic stories to tell on why they cant make it. I am very upset because it took my project and pushed it off. I won't sit back and get fucked by noone regardless who they are or think they are, just wondering should I post their info here or what? |
EscortBiz,
Im my experience it'd be bigger news when people DID hit deadlines than when they didn't. ;-) |

When you hire a plumber, and he fucks you around, what do you do?
Post on a message board? Hire somebody else? IMO, unless it's involving money, there's no reason to drag somebody through the mud. You should have enough influence with your close contacts that word of mouth is quite enough. Anything else makes you seem a drama queen. On the other hand; it does decrease efficiency. Guess it's ultimately up to you. |
This is GFY isn't it?

If you got fucked out of some money, post it.

Escort,
I would first suggest you talk to the person in question reasonably about your dissatisfaction and see if it can't be resolved in some way to your liking. If it were me on the other end of it, I would normally offer some banners or other work to you for free or maybe a price break on the original deal or something as a make-good for whatever has happened.... (I don't know your specific situation) If it's a photographer, maybe he can offer you some extra stuff as well. If that doesn't work, then out them so someone else doesn't end up asking this next week. |
Bullshit is aproblem in any business, but it should only be a problem for the bullshitters, not for the guys trying to conduct themselves in a proper manner..... expose the fuckers... they will have a chance to respond in their defense here at GFY... of course this opens people to unethical bullshit attacks then we have the old cry wolf syndrome going on.... we should have a list like the BBB but for the porn business....every year we could elect a non partisan commision to head this org. we could hold the election at the AVN in Jan. anybody on a trade ticket has a right to vote... if they are a principle in their business...if they do not or can not attend, they can fax their info in..i.e. business type and name registration etc....you know a valid way to mail in their vote..

If i missed on my promised dates of delivery I would loose alot of customers. That aint no way to run a business especially since repeat customers should bea number one priority. FOr example if some says they need so and so by so and so day. THE SHIT GOTTA get done and there by so and so .

This is not very related but since I actually studied on this subject....
only around 25-30% of all programming projects in the US finish on time and on budget. this is sad but true and hasnt changed much over the decades. i'd just say, always keep your expectations low |

I hire a small apartment above a deli as a studio, and I enter the building via the deli. Last month the deli owner changed the locks and did not give me a key, because of this I had to cancel a photo shoot. Should I post the name of the deli so you can all buy your cold meats somewhere else?

EscortBiz, since you never responded to me please expose them. :) |
No, you'll just end up wasting more of your time in pissing contests all month long when they start defending themselves. Inevitably a few will seek vegeance for the disclosure which will create additional hassles and waste of your time.
If someone doesn't perform to your expections its very simple, never use them again and if someone comes to you for a recommendation for them tell them straight up they didn't perform. The only way you succeed long term in any industry is your rep. Good reps are best propogated by good word of mouth. Those that fuck others eventually disappear because no one will be recommending them to anyone else. A slow death is always the best revenge. :) |

There. I've exposed myself. :glugglug |
If someone fails to do something properly and on time, you don't owe them any courtesy whatsoever. It isn't your job to contact them to give them chance to make amends: that's their job. If they neither do the work to spec nor (quickly) offer compensation without being prompted, you would be doing everyone here a favor by letting us know who to avoid. You would also be doing a favor to the people who do have decent standards.
That said, in industries where doing a late or half-assed job first time out of the box is the norm, the customer is supposed to know what to expect. It's crazy, but fellow customers, although screwed themselves, won't be too sympathetic if all you got was the "normal" runaround. When you are dealing with people in those industries, don't just hope for the best. Make it clear from the off you don't want the usual crap and stay on top of the job: don't wait for the deadline to pass. Keeping in touch also gives you a chance to judge whether they tried their best against real problems (that's forgivable) or just jerked you around. Never ever give someone who jerked you around a second chance, because you already proved that you will stand for it, so you can expect more of the same. The only reason low standards are so common is that people put up with them and keep quiet about businesses which work that way. This is a small community: if we didn't protect all the villains and losers, there wouldn't be near as many of them. |
