Extortion

There is someone trying to extort my customers, first, it was with a threat to expose them via phone recordings. That was two months ago.

Yesterday and today, customers are coming forward saying that someone from the internet crimes division needs to speak with them about their phone conversations.

Obviously, someone is trying to attack my business and integrity....I know this is a crime for them, but I'm unsure what step to take next.

I have worked with Michael Fattorosi previously and would be happy to do so again, but I think this is beyond me hiring an attorney. Extortion, blackmail etc.

What do I do?

Wautier 10-06-2022 01:16 PM

I'll give you some pointers if you would be ok with sharing more info in a private message.

Ideally; for both you and your customers, it's some random foreigner who won't do much damage in general. Otherwise, it's an orchestrated attack on your business, and they've covered their tracks.

But in any case, message me.

Do you have skype?

And no, not a foreigner - he was american, spoke English and called them on the phone from a text now number. I am sure it's a disgruntled ex worker....and while they do not have access to the things they are threatening, it's still scaring customers.

WOW! That is crazy! I'm so sorry this is happening to you.:mad:

NatalieK 10-06-2022 01:42 PM

how has anyone your customer phone numbers or contact details?

you need to find this link and then you can work out who is doing this to you :2 cents:

find the problem and remove it, good luck :thumbsup

If the customers are just getting emails saying that then it might be general spam scams.
I get daily threats about videos of me fucking. That simply can't be true. :Oh crap

In this case, it is a real thing. You missed the point where customers are getting phone calls. It does sound like an ex-employee is doing this.

When a lady takes a call they get customer info, such as the phone number he's calling from and the email address where he'd like her to send some content. Currently, there are over 60 girls working and probably 20 who have come and gone over the year.

Of course, they all have a non-compete so most don't just blatantly try to poach customers, but some do....and that's what I've worked with Michael on over the last year or two.

This is a new level of stupidity. Pretending to be a federal agent?

If it were going to cost me money I would not pursue it because eventually, they will go away and I'll have spent an easy 20k, but since this is on a criminal level, I think it would just be pursued criminally. That's just what I'm not sure about.

is there a business reason to expose private data to your operators? can you route the calls thru a filter? (speaking generically since i don't know your system). are the operators exposed to credit cards too?

i personally dont care what anyone says to me on the phone. send me a letter if its important. dont have my address? then you aren't important :1orglaugh

There is reporting info at fbi.gov/investigate/cyber but no idea how seriously they take this sort of thing. If the customer victims and and you and the extortionist are in the same locality, then maybe a local police report could help? Sorry to hear this is happening. Good luck.

Did you cross check all the reports you got, if they all called the same girl for example?

Lets say its from 30 different girls, you can also exclude the girls (since it becomes that much more unlikely the issue is at that spot in the chain then)

first thing first, to protect your business, you must email everyone and explain that there has been several emails, "explaining the situation", thus eradicating the worry and concern when this happens to another customer.

This similar, has happened within escorts, the companies have messaged both escort and customer suggesting that anyone other than the customer or escort should not receive and reply to any other email...

This not stopping the problem, however, stopping the business being trashed.

Wishing you luck, ass holes always will try to ruin good business, snakes in the wilderness :(

Thank you, Natalie and everyone else for your replies.

Running reports and trying to find the same connections between them seems to be the best method of narrowing it down.

Unfortunately (but fortunately), I have over 15k customers, an ex contractor, if she were very, very, very good, would have access to MAYBE 1500 customers, so I wouldn't risk drawing attention with all the customers and causing upset for maybe 1500 who would be contacted. Only the very trusting customers are coming forward, I'm sure the rest just say fuck it, I'm not using that service anymore.

I'm sure the right thing is to do what I normally do and wait for the troll to go away, but it has definitely annoyed me enough that I may want to pursue it.

Good Morning people! It's gonna be a good day.

Great points.

Since we are not a dispatch company (that would solve all these issues, but cause plenty of other issues), my goal is to teach people how and when to market to my customers, figuring out how to do that effectively without them getting information has been a challenge over the past 23 years. We went from chiseling information on rocks in 1999 and sending it via email to a sophisticated CRM custom-built for my company.

However, my programmer and I have some great changes to make, and things will look a lot different in a few months once the internal messaging system is done....and yes, the goal will be to protect my company and the clients. It's always the goal.

So, why don't you just do that? Don't tell me about financial goals and all that bs. If you want to retire, you just retire. You can work out the finances and shit.

Well, there are only so many hours in the day I can play with goats, I'm like, what do I do with the rest of my day?

However, now that I made the decision as to what to do after I turn 50, I started working on it.. I have already put the deposit on my new dairy goat barn, which should be in March or April of next year. I just sold 13 goats and acquired 6 new dairy goats putting me at 31. I plan to have goat yoga and reiki in the new dairy barn and, of course, milk goats and make soap, lotion, and cheese.

I have til spring to work toward handing the reins over to my friend, who I have worked with for the last year. Then I can really step away.

It's a little difficult because he's a man, and my girls are not used to that. It's hard for them to start going to him instead of me, but we are slowly working him in.

Since this message, my programmer has made the internal email system work correctly and all of the emails are hidden. Making things happen!

Fuck these people, I feel better about it now....no one else has come forward and I hope and believe they will just get tired and move on.

Trust me, you will find plenty to keep you from getting bored

When I say "retire," I just mean I don't want to do my job here...I'm tired, but you know I'll still own it and come in periodically =)
