You can get an idea of what kind of servers they use by looking at their dedicated server offerings.

-those servers are really old but in general, I'd not expect any sort of quality out of shared hosting, especially at 50c per month or whatever.

We use them for such things. And you can do light speed servers too. Pack 200 sites into a server and still be fast.

Symbolic link them in the add on domains to those in the main domain.

Gets around the unlimited hosting, but too many inodes problem.

Thanks to everyone who recommended us! I'm not sure we're the right choice for this particular case though - cheap shared hosting isn't something we offer - just not our line of business - you have to sacrifice way more quality than we're ready to sacrifice to offer it.
