how do you upload HD vids to youtube ?

I haven't tried in years but as I remember it always uploaded in HD quality..

Now its constantly uploading in low res and there's no setting anywhere to change it

I've upload a 4K video every single day for the last 2 years, so I'm pretty familiar with how it works.

There aren't any settings - Just upload it as a .mp4 - Convert footage if needed to .mp4 using the h246 or h265 codecs, and upload it.

Youtube will do the rest. Once its uploaded it begins processing. It processes 360p, 1080p & 4K at the same time. Once the SD has processed, you can add cards, annotation, endings etc and publish.

The HD & 4K will be available automatically when ready. An 18/20 min 4k video, (18GB) once uploaded usually takes about half an hour for the SD version to process, and a further 70/90 mins for both the high res versions.

TL:DR - Just upload in the best res you have - Youtube does the rest without you needed to do anything, other than wait :thumbsup

Pro Tip: If you are wanting to get your video live ASAP, but don't wanna make just the low res available straight away (So viewers don't think - This isnt HD!) instead of hitting 'Publish' hit 'Schedule' which will automatically set it to go live the following day at midnight / 12am - Then close your browser tab, go and do something else for an hour and a half, and when you come back its finished processing - Just change 'Scheduled' to 'Live' and its done.

This is todays 10 min 4K video uploading - You'll see all the three stages taking place in real time like that...

i don't see those stages anywhere.

Give it time. It's processing a bunch of different versions in the background.

I am quite sure you can have HD video only if you have big amount of views on video.
You can see that by clicking "stats for nerds" - channels with low amount of views, like mine will have ac9 codec listed, while with big views they will have vp09 codec listed

Upload your footage, and if it is 4k, it will after a bit of time do a 4k version. Longer the footage the longer this will take.

Check youtube settings as it may not play back in 4k, you may have to opt for 4k version.

If you upload via am iphone, then it may not upload in 4k.

It is also worth uploading with the best format possible.

If the footage is hd, and you do not get a 4k version, check to make sure the file is 4k.

I notice the film looks to be phone footage in the format vertical rather than horizontal, and I am presuming youtube does not see that as 4k. Try filming horizontal and uploading that, as I suspect it will be seen as 4k.

Also make sure you are recording 4k on your mobile (I presume you recorded it on your mobile). I find 4k needs to be selected and set as stranded on an iphone, or you may find you are not recording 4k.

Im gonna go out on a limb here, and suggest that youtube isn't bothered about giving you full resolution, as its
A) A 'Short'
B) Vertical Video
C) Only 22 Seconds long.

Easy to find out - Turn phone landscape and record 3 mins of whatever - Even if you are just filming you wall - Doesn't matter. Upload that... Poost results?

EDIT: Further research suggests thats shorts, are by definition, a max of 1920x1080p - So not 4K anyway...

Thats HD ? Are you expecting 4K? If so, have a look at the file you uploaded - The original file was what resolution? Get info on it (right click) was it 3840 x 2160 pixels?

My only thought is that its perhaps because its not shot in a 16 X 9 Ratio?

It appears to have been shot at a greater width than height?

Its shot in 20 X 9 ratio
