You're right, but Henson didn't want to be just about kids. He wanted an adult audience. Getting out of the Sesame Street shadow was a pain in the ass for him. The Muppet Show was an improvement, but that's why he was repeatedly trying to breaking out with new projects.

The original Kermit the Frog coffee commercials are downright sadistic.
