Did Ed Sheeran rip-off Marvin Gaye?
Did Ed Sheeran rip-off Marvin Gaye?
Did he just pull a "Blurred Lines" (Warning: Delicous boobies) Is he this generations Vanilla Ice? Thieves everywhere? Or just tender-loving Hommage? |
Reaching there....

it is the same chord progression -- I-iii-IV-V -- with the same rhythm on the chord changes
but its absolutely ridiculous. The ed sheeran song is ii-V-I in the pre-chorus, the marvin gaye song is IV-V in the bridge part moreover, have you listened to pop radio lately? seems like every other song is using ii-V-I these days....which by the way is the most commonly used progression in jazz. melodies and instrumentation are completely different too. pure copyright trolling. Terrible for the music industry if sheeran loses. |
There are so many strings on a guitar - keys on a piano and beats for a drummer to use in any song to give it the feeling an artist wants.
So what if it is similar (its a stretch) - there is no way that Sheeran ripped it off as much as you could rip off a blues lick for many songs or base cords for rock. |
