The bubble is burst on the internet
We seem to be hitting a new bubble burst, and this will make things interesting.
Years ago we had the bib bubble burst where huge online businesses went bust. Many set up who seemed to think they had exclusive rights to sell and that no other firms could set up to compete and that they could run things with no costs (as in they thought they did not need to spend money on advertising). we have seen a few youtube channels go bust too as even though they got a lot of views, it was not going to cover the cost of full time presenters, staff and equipment. Indeed I came across one channel that had spent a ton on equipment and studio gear, presenters and staff, but had no more than 300 views per vid. But now Vice and others seem to be going bust. Not because they do not have views but because they run things in a very expensive way. But one problem is one suspects adverts these days do not work online. One suspects that adverts on a page that gets say a million views in a day would result in few clicks (especially as you may have seen the same advert or banner on other sites). Then how many result in sales? Not to mention the click bait problem. Where the title interests you but you find the article is not what you expected and leave. This creates lots of traffic and you can con advertisers into paying a lot of cash for worthless views. This will be the problem from now on, Not just mainstream but for porn sites. Adverts simply are not very good online. I suspect most people cannot think of many online adverts but probably can think of many they have seen on the TV or even listened to on the radio. |
Part of the problem maybe a lack of originality in content for adverts as well. Most just copy someone else or google an idea rather than actually take time being creative.
Several years ago someone asked me to create an advert for them in a sea of shiny new very colorful adverts - I decided to go retro - back to the 60's and it worked. Not only traffic but sales since the companies target was an older generation but also teh younger ones appreciated a retro style which you find even when buying paint colors and furniture. Point is - it can - but usually doesn't including porn mostly because few have the ability to think outside the box and actually do something heir competitors aren't. |
I'm not sure what you're trying to say. We run ad campaigns worth thousands USD every month and we're still happy with the outcome. I think it depends on a lot other things other than this. Have a good ad, a good product, market it effectively etc.

I still can't believe anyone is dumb or oblivious enough to use the internet with no ad blocking. Aside from being more relaxing, more private, more secure, with more protection against malware, sites are simply much much faster when ads are blocked.
This is the internet we need to return to: telehack.com |

"We run ad campaigns worth thousands USD every month"
Oh wait, you actually said that, before announcing you have no idea about the internet, believing it's "based on" advertising, have no idea that people made websites before ads, apparently don't know what 'edgy' means - it doesn't mean laughing at a nobody with a five minute old site talking trillions of dollar industries - and in another thread the other day argued with a top host because you have no clue how DMCA works or even how webhosting works. 'How can a hosting company disable "content" on a VPS? Your VPS is a rented virtual server. From the company's perspective it's either up or down.' U WOT M8? You're only up to 46 articles of utter and complete total stupidity; just scrap this and try again with a clean slate. |

Vice was never profitable to begin with. They received funding from leftist globalist banks. Banks are collapsing and can no longer fund these leftist sites.
More sites will go bankrupt this year and next year. Might be a good time to start up sites to replace those but it's difficult to make money. People just don't want to pay for anything online. |
