XML Sitemap Question

So I'm currently putting together a bunch of stand-alone sites but, they're all located in an individual sub directory of a single domain name.

Should I be generating a sitemap for each of these sites as if they were stand alone or, just do one sitemap for the main domain name?

Anyone have any feedback or thoughts on this that are cemented in experience?

Much appreciated :thumbsup

Why would you put together a bunch of "sites" in sub directories on the same domain name? Landing pages makes sense, but sites... that does not compute.

Either way, if you want to go down this route (a route that is pretty ill-advisable, imo), just one sitemap per domain. If you were using sub-domains instead of directories, then per sub-domain is fine.

I haven't really done something that doesn't make any sense since about 2006 as far as websites go. As for "free sites", that's literally my business. :1orglaugh

I don't put anything that isn't connected to the main site (ie., a forum or blog) in a sub-directory. Like I said, a landing page makes sense, but a wholly different "site" is quite frankly stupid. Buy a domain. They're cheap.

Either way, doing different sitemaps for the same top-level domain on a sub-directory is a great way to make Google think this is as stupid as I do. :thumbsup

I used to build out doorways on a mass scale if I remember correctly Google tools will reject the subdomains in the xml file when you submit it for indexing. Sub domain should have own xml but things might be different now try it out.
