I'm actually excited by it - Not for now, but for 10/15 years down the road...

I think of it a bit like the original iPhone - Expensive, and didn't really do all that much, but its lead us down the path to the iPhone 14 (along with all the comparable android phones)

So if this headset is the original iPhone, think what its going to be like in 15 years! Like I say, I'm excited ! :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

I think you may be missing 2 or 3 important factors.

1. It is a stand alone system

The other VR headsets seem to need you to have a powerful PC.

This unit could make a huge difference if people make decent games for it or even decent films.

That could make it the big game changer.

2. This model also records films

This is where porn sites may think this is suddenly interesting, as you can film with it.

This could give an amazing VR experience. Up to now VR porn was a fad that died out (look how many were starting VR porn sites and now only one or two still talk about).

Now the truth is going to be if we see great apps for it. One factor why the iphone took off along with other smart phones was the apps.

Indeed many years before we had smart phones we had great pocket computers (pda's) but the truth was they only had a few bits of softwear and often very expensive softwear.

One thought I have is will we see a few generations from now (if they are smart) having the unit with your iphone as its computer. This way it would buy the unit cheap and your iphone slots in as the computer, or even simply connects via air drop (making the headset very light and smaller as your phone could be in your pocket)

The product looks really impressive and to me does everything that a good VR headset should do. It's is light-years beyond anything else the competitors have thats for sure.

The pricepoint of $3500 is crazy-high so I won't be buying one but like all tech, it will get cheaper and cheaper.

It is also first generation, and often the first is not as good as the rest.

It is all in one, so in some ways you have to take that into account as you do not need to buy a $2000 pc to get it to work.

But this model also seems to have lots of everything, and I suspect they will have cheaper versions that have less functions.

But...

What we may see is other firms bring out stand alone VR headsets.

To me one problem with other headsets is you seemed to have to be connected to a computer.

Having a standalone may be a huge game changer.

For instance I did think if this was built into a motorbike helmet then you could have the road map and directions on your helmet visor with also the speed your going and how much fuel you have.

Because they are stand alone means they can be used outside and you could have huge adventure games in vr put in the real world with others.

Also as it says pro, one presumes they must also be planning a non pro and cheaper versions.

The Apple avatars are a bit of an upgrade on those of Meta too.

just another useless and overpriced Apple product.

Keep in mind it's a prototype only - once they work out the bugs and hopefully sell a few of these the next gen maybe next year will be better fitting and not weigh so much leaving marks on your forehead and nose

I like that it is expensive, so when I get mine I will not have those stupid fucking kids running around like with my meta quest headset. Other people's stupid fucking kids ruined it.

You realize that the Meta Quest and Meta Quest Pro headsets are standalone?

And this headset actually requires you to have a lead to the battery you're supposed to keep in your pocket, so i'ts more 'tethered' than the Meta Quest headsets.

And you can't wear VR headsets outdoors currently because the sunlight damages the screen.

But yes, you would think the camera on the front would be of interest to porn webmasters, especially giving that it films in 3D volumetric (i.e. 'holograms').
