Which online forum is best?
 

There are a lot of things that you can't post on social media. Stuff like a broad getting pissed on by 10 guys and older woman pretending to be her mother. Plus there's all the trolls, free loaders and cancel culture bullshit. I've also never liked the idea that some mega wealthy big tech company by defacto profits from content I paid for then tells me what the fuck I'm allowed to do.

So I think there are arguments that can be made for going old school and installing a forum on a site.

I always start everything by looking at what the free options are. (Wealth is made by nickels and dimes more than dollars) The free options seem to be phpbb and mybb. Phpbb seems to be very stable and basic but it's butt ugy. Mybb has a lot of options but it's a fucking nightmare because support sucks and shitty quality control over extensions.

Right now I'm looking into xenforo. The demos look great but is it worth the money? I'm still looking into it.

Anyone else know of good forum installs or have any opinions?

I'm building a forum right now myself and researched all the popular options...

For me my top two are Xenforo and Discourse, and am probably going to go with Discourse as I like how they re-designed the forum experience for modern day from the ground up.

Xenforo is $160 for a license. Personally, I always like installing something and then taking it for a test drive. You just don't get the same feel for something from demos. I've paid for stuff in the past that looked great in the demo but proved to be unstable crap with lousy support.

I promise that I'll never directly post a link to my stuff. However, I make no promises about being well behaved or respectful. :1orglaugh

Run vbulletin like GFY does. Sure it’s old but it is cheap, well supported, and very fast.

i could be wrong but I am under the impression that all the young generation of internet users has no fucking idea what a forum is... consequently I wonder if even starting a forum today in 2023 is worth it.

NIMBY just predates the invention of fire and doesn't realize how much the world (esp the realm of adult) has changed since 1823 when one could get away with a lot of stuff now very easily tracked and heavily regulated, without dealing with all the hoops we have to jump through these days

How about you tell me which normal Internet platform will allow us to post scat photos and videos? Because that's the side project that I'm working on. Plus the "young generation" doesn't spend money on porn like the "old generation" does. So I don't give a damn about the "young generation."

yea i end up having to do that research every couple of years because i never find one that perfectly fits. i almost always end up building a custom forum for the project.

for example i think the gfy style really only works here. at least half the members still use ICQ :1orglaugh
