Twitter to Restrict Number of Tweets People Can Read Each Day

Twitter to restrict number of tweets people can read each day

Quote:

Elon Musk has announced that Twitter is temporarily limiting the number of tweets people can read in a day, as thousands of users reported problems getting to the website.

Verified accounts were initially limited to reading 6,000 posts a day, Mr Musk said, adding that unverified accounts will be limited to 600 posts a day with new unverified accounts limited to 300.

The temporary reading limitation was later increased to 10,000 posts per day for verified users, 1,000 posts per day for unverified and 500 posts per day for new unverified users, Mr Musk said in a separate post without providing further details.
I guess rich people don't know everything. Something to keep in mind.

This whole episode will be in future business textbooks.

blackmonsters 07-03-2023 10:51 AM

My limit is already 0.

Paul&John 07-03-2023 11:42 AM

600/day for unverified accounts is super lame lol

Looks like Elon isn't paying his bills and Google don't play that.

Elon Musk blamed data scraping for strict 'rate limits' on viewing tweets. Twitter's former head of trust and safety says it's not the first time the site's been broken by someone 'bumbling around in the rate limiter.'

Quote:

Elon Musk on Saturday announced temporary tweet-viewing rate limits restricting how many posts un-verified Twitter users can see, blaming "extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation" for the limited functionality — but the site's former head of trust and safety says that argument "doesn't pass the sniff test."

"To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we've applied the following temporary limits," Musk announced on Twitter in the first of a series of tweets about the decision. Throughout the day, Musk continued posting about the rate limits, increasing the number of posts users could view each time.

As of 10 a.m. Saturday, verified accounts for paid users were initially limited to reading 6,000 posts per day, with existing unverified accounts limited to reading 600 posts per day and new unverified accounts only 300 per day. By 3 p.m., per Musk's tweets, those numbers increased to 10k, 1k, and 0.5k, respectively.

How can you tell it's all bots, Dave?

fris 07-04-2023 06:12 AM

you cant even view tweets for non logged in anymore, they are reallly forcing people to signup, and for you to pay for twitter blue.

just a punk 07-04-2023 09:28 AM

To restrict number of tweets people can read, not even post each day? Is that a joke or for real?

yes read, so if you have a lot of people you follow, just by scrolling through your feed, you can hit the rate limit. read doesnt mean full post view. read counts as being displayed in your feed.

Falcon, admit it.. you just hate him because he stopped censoring people that oppose your leftist views.

Long live freedom of speech.

Tasty1 07-04-2023 04:56 PM

I didn't reach my limits. And if i would reach it, i must have around 40 spare accounts.

abshard 07-04-2023 06:13 PM

I don't have an account so I haven't been able to read it for a few days unless they are embedded in a news article or something.

Falcon, you should be more concerned about Joe Biden's administration attempting to suppress American citizens' speech...

Judge limits Biden administration contact with social media firms: A federal judge in Louisiana ruled Tuesday that the Biden administration likely violated the First Amendment by censoring unfavorable views on social media over the course of the coronavirus pandemic, calling the efforts “Orwellian

From the article:

Quote:

The ruling and order from Doughty, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, are the latest developments in a long-running lawsuit spearheaded by Republican-led states alleging that the administration pressured social media companies to remove posts containing purported misinformation about the coronavirus, election security and other issues.

It's so nice to realize that I'm not following anyone but OpenAI :upsidedow

To be honest, I don't really understand what Twitter is for and who really uses it. There's Telegram, and that's more than enough for just about everything :2 cents:

dcortez 07-05-2023 10:36 AM

Successfully monetizing Twitter has always been the challenge.

Platforms of such magnitude have to juggle scale and net return in an tech/biz ecology that has no comparable precedent.

"Crazy" rules and limits will be tested. I'm sure the wildest possibilities have yet to come with AI driving the test bench.

It has less to do with making sense to "users", as long as they're hooked enough to not leave, and more to do with finding/tuning the sweet profit spots - remembering that "profit" is not limited to revenue streams.

If the platform can be proven as a good source of backend user profiling data, there is precedence for substantial military/intelligence 3-letter department sponsorship.

Having any expectations for such platforms to actually serve any social purpose, is about as naοve as it gets.

It's just a toy.

:2 cents:

Yup but I don't think he cares if USA is damaged by the Biden regime, he's a USA-hater, proved in many posts.

Regarding Twitter/Musk, some people just hate to see people building or becoming successful. :disgust
