Heavy Metal (magazine) not doing well
It is reported that Heavy Metal (magazine) is stopping.
For those who do not know about Heavy Metal (magazine), it is a USA comic that is adult that was originally translation of a comic from another country. They produced years ago a animated film that seems decent. But presumably sales are down. I presume probably with the cost, as last time (now a few years ago), the price of magazines seem to have shot up from a few pounds to over £6. I noticed that even children's comic's have gone from 10p (when I was a kid) to £3. But at the same time there are several sites that have scanned in old comic books and magazine's for free. |
I picked it up a few times but never bought one. The first movie, while classic, was actually kinda lame.

About 7 years ago, I had a subscription, noting they were covering emerging artists and overall look surpassed Juxtapoz in quality.
The next year, the subscription did not renew, I dropped Heavy Metal a line, did not hear back, and did not have the time to go chasing a new subscription. Their loss. In terms of the look and quality of the writing, Heavy Metal was stepping back up to that iconic standard of the 70s & 80s, helmed by Grant Morrison of Arkham Asylum and Doom Patrol fame. In contrast, Juxtapoz had severely lost the edge, going for a safer modern art look that reflected many of the art publications that Juxtapoz founders were originally critical of. |
I didn't even know they were still around! They should consider themselves lucky having survived this long.
