Does anyone use starlink?

I am tempted, but it seems expensive to purchase, and then a right royal pain in the butt, to get it on my roof.

Well you get it via a third party, and they install and set it up for you.

Example: https://devoncomms.co.uk/starlink-installation/

Obviously that's for me, down in Devon, but I'm sure there will be similar firms up where you are...

I don't but knew a client who had. He lived up in the mountains by a lake in his cottage. To say the quality was great was an understatement - it was friggin awesome. Connecting for a live video conference was like watching streaming video real time with no hesitation.

It certainly is worth every dime and effort.....

I keep seeing vids on youtube, where they seem to be getting it for £100 rather than £450 or whatever it is, so I am thinking if they do a deal for £100 then I will get it.

It is for uploading vids as it is taking ages.

I was thinking of a 5g hub thing, but they are not much cheaper than starlink.

By the way, I am in the UK and speeds are not great.

In the UK people miles from places have very bad internet, so I suspect they will get it, plus apparently they get it cheaper too.

It will be the 3rd party instal companies that will be offering the discounts - Just do some local research...

Its saying its 350mbps for £70 a month - You could get BT Full Fiber for less than that, and that would be 450mbps...

I spent all last week in upper yosemite camping in my parent's RV that they keep there all summer. They have starlink and the service was really good. The ping times were amazingly low, I was getting between 150 - 300mb down and 8 - 12mb up.

Kind of makes me want to move to a rural location now and get out of the city since it seems like broadband is truly available everywhere now.

My father in law is a sailor, they use it on their ship in the middle of the north sea. Works great out there even.

I have it for my summer home.
It works pretty well. I stream TV off it, have zoom meetings, etc.
During storms there seems to be a little lag here and there when watching TV but overall, it’s decent.

Yeah, I was actully on that same deal myself - pretty shit - Full Fiber rolled out and took the cheapest option - 150 Down, 30 up - Fully stable and I'm really happy - Shame you cant get it yet...

I bought it 1 year ago and got the monthly price automatically reduced 3 times already. It's cheaper than the regular broadband providers here and there's no contract (cancel anytime)

I planted the dish in my garden using the tripod that came with it, it works a charm. I love it : no downtime, fast, a great app to show you what you need to know.

I have friends who live out in the middle of nowhere and they love Starlink because there's either no other option or, the closest options aren't nearly fast enough.

If you live in an area that is getting Fiber Optic soon, then hold off because nothing compares to it. I get 3Gb/s up and down. The current Bell Model has a 10Gb port and there's a rumour that Bell will be offering even faster speeds in the next 1-2 years. Woohoo!
