Can you get by with 1000$ per month in New York if you are alone ?
If you are alone can you live in New York with only 1000$ per month ?
|
you can earn 1000$ per month?
|
Of course - But it wont be much of a life, & you'll be moving in circles where you are more likely to get mugged / Have your money stolen.
|
Yes, Upstate...like Up Up Upstate.

Being the only one in this thread that actually LIVES in New York (Manhattan) I can give you a proper answer:
First, no roommates? OK then you are looking at living in a studio outside Manhattan. Like far, far away in the Bronx or Brooklyn or Queens (or, heaven help you, Staten Island with all the aliens). But even then your chances are slim. Most studios are going for $2500-$3000 now. The average (average!) for a one bedroom in Manhattan is $4700. So unless you find a sweet sublet deal (possible) or a rent-controlled apartment (doubtful) or a shady building manager willing to take $5-20k to "get you in" (possible but not recommended) the answer is basically "no". No, you cannot live in New York alone for $1000. |

not if you want to live alone and be able to go out.
|
Yeah. But you will have to live on the street.
|
I thought you can go into the shops and take what you want for free.
So food is free. |
In 1970's NYC perhaps . . .

You can if you can find somewhere to park your van...

I live in rural Upstate NY and I cannot imagine how one could manage that. :2 cents: |
Why would you want to live in the most expensive city in the world with $1000 per month.
That is less than the average income in most 2nd world countries. |

If you can make it with 1k then you can make it with 0 too

I assume New York prices are similar to London's - So FUCK NO!..
|
I think you could make that $1000 work for you if you moved to Piggott, Arkansas.
"Face in the Crowd" was filmed there, starring Andy Griffith, and directed by Elia Kazan. That movie made Andy a star! Ernest Hemingway lived there for a while. In fact, he married a local gal and wrote parts of "A Farewell to Arms" in her family's barn. So there's some history there. In fact, you could probably live pretty well! It's right in the middle between New York and Los Angeles. |

I'm sure it is doable, I met someone surviving off $700 a month back in like 2015... part of their religion was they had to survive on at little as possible. They sold candles in very artistic shapes all summer for like $12,000 in profit all summer and lived off that money all year. They even made a trip to thailand each year. |
You'd have better luck in North Little Rock, AR with that tiny budget. But then you'd be living in a complete shithole.
