SEO - length of the titles and description
A question for those with enough SEO experience, please.
I am going through some old pages on one of my WP sites, and the Yoast plugin is now reporting that length of meta desc. and title fields are longer than they should be. My experience says that messing with established page ranking can easily be a problem, so I was wondering shall I proceed with fixing this "issue". Has anyone been in this situation? It's nothing extreme, maybe one worked or up to 10 characters on average regarding Yoast. thanks |
Just keep as it is, as google have tendency to mess things up when you do such changes.
|
Leave it.
Also, Yoast and those damn green lights are not accurate determinants that the crawlers are going to "reward" nor "penalize" the page. Just leave it as it is. |
I agree with the other 2 replies. Unless something is really messed up don't fix it. I also don't use Yoast. Just do your KW research and get the title right and that's 90% of the game right there (on site).

The ideal length for the meta title is 50–60 characters. Google starts to cut off the title tag after 50-60 characters.
The best recommendation for how long should a meta description be is to keep your descriptions somewhere between 150-160 characters H1 The general rule of thumb is 70 characters or under. H2 They can be as long or as short as necessary, but should include keywords to reinforce your main heading topic (h1 tag). Be careful though, if your H2 tags are too long, search engines may have trouble appropriately indexing them |

As others have said, leave it as it is. Perhaps for brand new pages you can try out the suggestions, but leave old pages as they are.
