why did they stop making good music?

90's.. early 2000's... why was all good music back than

CaptainHowdy 11-02-2023 03:03 PM

The white-boy-alternative-rock-band is considered an inherently fascist format nowadays . . .

OneHungLo 11-02-2023 03:09 PM

^^ lol

Yeah man, I grew up in the 80s and 90 and there was some good music put out back then.

Were the goat years for music 60s-90s? Or is it just perspective?

Rock and Roll: 1960-2000

After that, music with guitars is dead (except for country).

Shame really.

I blame pro tools and auto tune.

NakedWomenTime 11-02-2023 03:53 PM

Maybe it's just that you have to look for it harder nowadays. There is plenty of good music if you go looking for it on Spotify, but you won't find it in the mainstream.

Sadly, very few "musicians" can actually play the instruments now. Its the same shit regurgitated over and over.

Art is dead in the west because all culture comes inorganically through top-down algorithms.

The above poster is correct, if you want something different, you need to search for it. :pimp

If you like bands like Korn, you still have some decent stuffs in the 2000s.

This. There is a ton of good music by musicians who can play their instruments and vocalists who can properly sing, but you have to look for it. I have recently started seeking out live gigs again due to stuff I've found on Spotify.

redwhiteandblue 11-03-2023 06:16 AM

Here's some proper fucking singing. This band split a few years ago so I'll never get the chance to see them live regretfully, but this girl puts passion and emotion and talent into every single fucking word she sings. No autotune shit needed here, listen all the way through to see what I mean.

Colmike9 11-03-2023 06:26 AM

You guys won't believe me, but a long time ago, Artemis Pyle and someone else from Lynyrd Skynyrd came to my house because they wanted my uncle to play bass, but he didn't open his door for some reason. So, it's prolly laziness.. :upsidedow

Also Chuck Berry, but he did play for him lol

redwhiteandblue 11-03-2023 06:28 AM

Saw these at Wembley last year, Floor Jansen still belting out the vocals at 43, and she'd been through breast cancer too. Now don't tell me there are no musicians playing real instruments - Nightwish have an English guy playing Irish bagpipes FFS!

BAKO 11-03-2023 07:36 AM

Because they want to kill you and your family and the todays music make you sick and it easier to kill a sick person.
No no?
Check depopulation agenda.
Why they want to kill you and your family? Because metals are limited and you are consuming metals. Not sure about oil, but metals are.
What you can do to stop them?
Who are they, in the first place? Owners of transnational banks and corporations - slave owners. Excess power corrupted their brain.
What you can do to stop them? Call slave owners by they real name - slave owners and share folk wisdom (ex. glass is always greener on the other side of the fence, what you give is what you get etc)

There's some really good stuff out there, and I'll go so far as to say the past 10 years have been better than what came before.

But it's really pop music and radio that continually hit new lows. Like with movies, it's become more a matter of rehashing what sells and succeeded as opposed to trying to make something great. We're just now getting into that lucky moment where corporate media has poisoned itself and is letting unprofitable radio stations go, something akin to a pig choking on a toad.

On the flip side, you have projects like Sound and Fury by Sturgill Simpson. The whole concept album is a big winner, but Sony's marketing had no clue what to do with it (Is it country? Is it rock? Is it pop?). Further confounding Sony was that Simpson didn't really want them involved, creating Sound and Fury as an artistic experiment rather than something traditionally monetized. The album and Netflix animated special succeeded, but primarily because Simpson hit his objectives and got it into the black, not because of charts/sales/marketing.

CurrentlySober 11-03-2023 03:50 PM

The thing you need to understand, is that there are only a finite amount of musical notes - Likewise, there are a finite number of combinations that these notes can be placed in.

Therefore its logical that good music will have stopped being made, as all the good combinations of notes have been used up! That's why we started getting sampling and remixes all the time.

These days there are so few viable note combinations that are pleasant to the ear, which have not already been used, it makes perfect sense that the stuff that's left is unpleasant!

Good Music hasn't 'Stopped being made' - Its simply 'Run Out'

Mic Drop / Boom!

Because music gets into your soul in a certain way when you are young and hormonal. So everyone gets to an age where they think the music really was better when they were younger.

Another 90's rock panzer (not pansy) division . . .

TheLegacy 11-04-2023 06:41 AM

Back in the 70's bands were allowed to experiment and many classics came from that. Trouble was executives wanted a formula and started to create one - from look to song style. Every band and singer was made to fit into a peg and it all started sounding the same. Rap music offered some relief until people got bored of that.

Now what you find are artists going back and playing the oldies or bands changing their sound to a band from the 60s or 70s.

I find it amazing the new Beatles song is coming out strong - which shows how the exec's were wrong.

Same kind of thing with TV shows. When you re-watch old ones, they suck and aren't close to as good as what you remember lol.

To be candid, after listening to Sister Sin, RedScale, Danko Jones, and Church of the Cosmic Skull, I have to be realistic as that some of the new stuff is significantly better than a lot of the music I listed to in the late 80s.

And while Currently Sober has a point about only so many notes, there's still so much innovation that happens, and some by accident.

Really good point. This is why I have never re-watched the original Star Wars movies.

That is pretty excellent, thanks for the share, but I would have LOVED that in my blood and bones circa 1988.

Now, I'm sitting here, listening on much more expensive headphones than I owned then, enjoying the music, but I probably won't even think about it, unless maybe I have a publication editor ask me for pitches it relates to. Which, having come out in 2014/5, probably won't happen.

Edit: Also, how is it that the Swedes do this type of music so well? Like every Swedish musician I ever interviewed could not wait to get to the US, but they must have a really great music scene or something.
