Alternatives to Pennywize...

After using Pennywize for a few months I am finding it does jack squat against commited brute force hackers.

If the guy has a lot of proxies, or repeats IP's slowly he always gets through.

I have it set to block any IP for 3000 seconds if there are more than 3 attempts, but if I look at the files created for rewrite in the pennywize directory they are present for no more than 2 minutes.
As far as I can tell it doesn't work; we have a support request in but I don't see what we are doing wrong.

So what can we use? We need something that will block proxy attacks and also excessive multiple id logins WITHOUT pissing off all of our AOL users.

I like Password Sentry. Doesn't stop the brute force attacks, but makes having a password used by more than one person useless.

I agree, password sentry does a good job.

It doesn't hurt that it is far less expensive than any of the alternatives, and the guy who wrote it actually gives good support.

Try iProt. It stops proxy attacks fairly well, but I think he is developing a new version that is better at it. It is compiled into Apache and it has no load on your server at all. You don't even know it is running.....

Proxypass. I had days where it blocked distributed brute force attempts carried out over 80k anon proxies.

I recently found a new program:

Investment Guard ($139.95)

http://realtimescripts.com/docs/investment_guard.htm

I haven't used it yet, but the features sound cool.

p00p,

http://www.stopthathacker.com may have a very basic site design but the scripts are AAAAA+++ and have stood the test of time. They have been protecting many sites including lot's of the big boys for over 7 years now. Plus our records show you have never even purchased a copy. So you are speaking out your ass and not from experience. LOL!

Your name fits you perfect. LOL! But to be honest I am really begining to feel very sorry for you.

You have so much crap built up in you...... Maybe you need a box of xlax? Or are you really as pathetic as you pretend to be? Has life been so bad to you that this has become your nature?

You are married to....... I can't remember her name at the moment. But she has an amateur site. Correct?

Danielle
