Curse of Oak Island TV show

The show is like 2 minutes of "discoveries" and 58 minutes of BS...

Why can't I stop watching? :1orglaugh

And they never really find anything, or we would have known about it already.

Me too... the show is so divisive?!?!?

I was at an event with some wealthy people the other week through connections with my family, and while perusing the large snack buffet I was engaged in multiple conversations. Avoiding the topics of current events, I fell back on my go-to of discussing TV and film, and mentioned the new season of Curse of Oak Island came out.

These wealthy people I was with basically laughed in my face and called the show fake, a fraud, and said it is like professional wrestling and completely scripted. One guy said "how can you not tell it is totally fake and based on conspiracy nonsense? They planted all of the evidence and when they dig it up it is because it was planted there by the script writers."

Not wanting to be confrontational, I just said "Well, fake or not, it is interesting that there has been a mystery surrounding that island for so long and they are doing so much digging and drilling to solve it" to which, the one guy said "it is all like professional wrestling, and just like ghost hunting, all scripted nonsense for gullible people who want to believe and nobody working on the show actually thinks there is a mystery."

Never had my balls busted so hard at a friendly event over a TV show I liked before... DAMN! :helpme

So many shows are like that, light on content so they repeat a lot of the same content from different angles to fill up time and keep leading us to believe in the next 2 minutes something extraordinary is going to happen.

Well my response to those rich snobs would be:

Everyone from Franklin Roosevelt to Humphrey Bogart have either spent money or time on that island, searching for The Money Pit. The guys doing it now - the Laginas - are easy to look up. You should like Marty! He's a multi-millionaire due to his stake in a Michigan oil company.

Fake or not the brothers Lagina have spent millions on digging equipment and the latest technology so if it's professional wrestling it's extremely well done and high end tomfoolery.

I will take it over The Kardashians anytime. :)

I totally get that... if they just showed exactly what they found and their plans, the whole show, each episode, would be like 5 minutes, but they give an opportunity for everyone to speak and discuss their thoughts and the next steps. I find the show very entertaining even with the 50 minutes of BS and 2 minutes of actually finding stuff. I tend to make fun of the show a bit because anytime I admit to being a fan of it in person, someone ALWAYS fucking busts my balls about it, and I can have a temper due to my lingering COVID rage... so I just laugh it off.
