Hard to find a good Wordpress Design

I run across a few mainstream wordpress blogs with nice, clean designs, good colors and an uncluttered, light but professional look to it. I then want to buy one like it, but can't for the life of me find any that are like them.

Simple, light, yet still looking sharp.

If they are simple, they look bland, unexciting and plain boring.

If they are sharp, they have too many features and are bloated.

Design has always been irritating to me.

Any good suggestions?

check out X Theme

use it on a side project. it's updated frequently and you can do pretty much whatever you want with it, without a whole bunch of task specific plugins

only thing that annoys me is that 'wordpress bakery' that gets installed with the theme, but easy to switch to classic editor. I'm not sure if removing bakery would fuck with the theme so leave it be, and some peeps seem to prefer it

another that seems to be highly customizable and popular is Divi, but never used it myself

if you run across a site you like check the theme with https://whatwpthemeisthat.com/ or something similar

good luck :)

sorry, I accidentally got that backward...long night

you actually have to click on wordpress bakery to get the classic editor. but it's just a one button press. annoying that it's not the default, but if you prefer classic editor don't uninstall that plugin!

other than that, yeah the theme rocks and you can do pretty much anything you want with it

You are in adult, let your content be the exciting part of those "bland" themes.

plsureking 02-11-2024 06:32 AM

i like this package:

https://themeforest.net/item/king-wo...theme/19436704

they keep it updated and there's a lot of layout options.

i think it looks cool for media style sites.

i use it for the porncms wordpress demo...

I just scroll through Wordpress until I find a theme that I like and download it for free.

I wish I could show some designs I've done for friends, etc, but... People on GFY are dicks so I no longer mix my personal stuff with the adult industry.

Try ASTRA

it's free and it makes me money. The only 2 factors that make sense to me.

Something really clean like this one:

https://fitnessfaqs.com/articles/

Mainstream, good spacing, no unnecessary clutter, no waiting for other parts to load, only content showing, readable font, clear headers, good colors etc...

Something that is simple enough, yet looks impressive in terms of quality.

I know one of the dicks you are talking about but fortunately he is banned from GFY.

Good thread. Bump for more information.

Btw, hate to sound threat hijacky, but anyone know of a good wordpress web developer who can take a theme, modify if needed, add/edit features, and do all these little tasks?

How do you do that? How would I do that for this page?

K.I.S.S principle applies here.

Check out my site on how simple it is but converts visitors into clients.

It's annoying tedious work sometimes, every site is different.
Learn how the loop works and you're halfway there, though.

if you look at the tube theme i did in my sig, i did that over a weekend, design to wp was only a few hours, then the rest was internal functions like ratings, etc.

seems what you are afteer is specific. that theme looks like a custom one. you could grab the html and convert it to a theme, but not sure thats legal to do that.

i would find a simple minimal template you like and have someone convert it to a theme.

thats if you cant find one thats made already.

Thanks. It's not bad, and free to boot. I'll check this out and play around with it.

This is easily done with any existing block-editor theme such as the free theme that comes with wordpress and a few block-editor plugins such as Astra Pro or PostX pro.

You can even do it with the free versions of Astra or PostX if you want to have links back to them in your footer, which I'm never ok with once a site is considered done.

You can do almost ANYTHING with block editor.

Is there a steep learning curve for, let's say Astra Pro, in creating the design you want for your blog and pages?

Also, which version of Astra Pro would it be?
https://wpastra.com/pricing/

The $79 talks about block editors with effortless design. I don't see that with the $49 one.

The "Pro" versions of those both give you more blocks and option than the free versions do. Both require the free versions to be installed as well, so give it a try.

Lot of youtube videos on building with block editor. It's kind of like building a website with old netscape composer but with many more functions.

You can do alot with just stock wordpress as well without paying for more plugins to include additional blocks.

Valentin 02-20-2024 05:20 AM

You can try divi theme by elegantthemes , it is a reliable WordPress theme that you can also set on auto-update all plugins including theme and wordpress and have no issues for years.

Yeah, I remember that with netscape composer :)

Thanks, I'll likely try Astra Pro.

Is there a huge difference between how nice you can make your site with stock WP vs a paid block editor plugin like Astra? Meaning can I use free Astra with Gutenburg and get almost as nice looking a site as with Astra Pro?

and thanks also for the YT vid.

Check out the new blocks that Astra Pro offers and decide if you even need them before paying for it. Yes you can make cool stuff with the free version and check out PostX as well.

There are several plugins that add new block editor functions, not just these two.

Same... I usually search for free templates with minimalist in the description and pick one that I like.

I found a cool site https://wpsandbox.net/create/
It lets you run a Wordpress sandbox test site so you can test any plugins or themes for free, it gives you full admin access
This is a great way to test things if you don't want to test it on your live site
