Then every browser would block adult until a parent unblocked the device.

So it's political; because if we blocked it that way, the politician would have nothing to campaign about.

Of course it's political. You have elections coming up in the US. It's pointless overall because foreign sites wouldn't have to do it, thus they would have a potential advantage over US (think free sites with advertising that get paid per exposure)
