Anyone got an X10 Cam?
time to put camera's outside my house to taunt neighbours, thinking about only putting one near my front door, or another looking from my garage door, don't want to speed a whole lot of cash, don't really need to be wireless, and stuff... sany ides

ok fine last bump for the night crew

i've heard they suck. bad quality, poor range, stuff like that. just over-hyped junk. not something i'd buy.
i'd probably go with some of those tiny ccd's or something. they work well in the dark as well, a lot of them have IR illuminators and stuff. you can get them the size of about a quarter on up. they're pretty cheap, but you have to adapt a signal system/carrier for them. you can go wired or add a wireless transciever. of course, you can get more expensive stuff with higher quality, really nice mounting systems and excellent illuminators for around $150-200/ea. i can dig up some references probably if you're interested. |
Hello Asuna glad you made a post on this because I have been wondering if their camera packages were good also.
I see their ads everywhere and they have products that really look good. If anyone out there has any experience give us some feed back :-) |

i just told you, they suck, don't buy one. :glugglug |
Actually I bought like 4 total.
The one on my front porch at my old house was pretty cool...I had a remote and could move the camera around...zoom in etc. They arn't 'Top Quality', but they did the job. :thumbsup |
You'll have more fun wiring your place with spy cams and hidden microphones.
:thumbsup |
Fuck I got one but the reciever sucks and won't hold vertical... anyone know where to get a good one without buying another camera??

If you have a wireless 802.11b network you can get some neat wireless cameras for them.
They are a lot more expensive than the X10 stuff, but a lot better quality. I think DLink makes some. There's some models you can get where you can log in on any computer and control the movement of the camera over the Internet. Pretty neat way to check up on your house if you are out of town. |
i got one, they do their job, too bad no voice tho.

We played with htme. The cams are now at the bottom of a junk box. They are garbage.
|
I bought one about 2 years..and at least it still works!:)
It's an OK type of camera. It'll work say as a general surveillance (sp?) camera..but it's not going to give you a lot of detail..especially at any great distance. |

Before I jumped headfirst into this industry with www.thethrillhammer.com my last "real" job was at x10.com helping them put together their marketing plan for those wireless cameras. Sorry about the pop-unders. :winkwink:
Yeah they are not the best cameras out there but for the pricepoint they are OK. They have a few differnet versions of the wireless cam which operates with a 2.4GHZ sender/receiver. One is a wide eye which gives a 120 degree field of view, a low light version, and the standard camera. The picture quality is somewhat shitty but for a cheap solution they do the job. For the garage they have one built into a floodlight. If you need a cheap ass wireless solution they have a product that can be repurposed for use with better cameras. They have a "entertainment anywhere" product that allows you to transmit stereo audio and video wirelessly. It takes RCA inputs. I personally use a couple of cams just to monitor activity in my studio when I am away and it does the job for that. The real cool stuff they have is the home automation products that they have been building since the 70's. If you are going to spend a bit more go with a 802.11 product. |

They should do fine for what you're wanting them for. I have a few and use them in my wondows around the house. Not good for dark hours, but are fine through the day.
However.. the microwave oven freaks it out when it's running.. :) |

Hey - sex machines are wicked cool... i'll bet even jesus wants one. But x10 popunders and the ensuing "hey, lets use popups because x10 made a killing off them" is :feels-hot |

You could try this, but it's almost the same as the secureview http://www.x10.com/home/offer.cgi?!FC01,../overturekw5.htm?>floodlight:.19 |

For comparison, they are about as good as a standard quality video cassette recorder. |
