getting members to my webmaster board...

hi there.
i just started a new webmaster board, and i would like to get some tips from you on how to get some webmasters joining and posting on it...
i won't name it here, because i don't want to do any competition here (won't be possible anyways ;)).
so far, i'm planning to give out prices for the best posters with the most posts and most quality posts each month.

but how can i promote my board?

any tips welcome ;)

thanks

It's really hard to get a webmaster board going these days, there's so many of them now. I tried to start one a few months ago and couldn't do it, gonna wait until I have much more time to do it. Just register like 10 names on your board and post, post, post! then get other peeps to join in.

Why settle with 10? Be a bit more ambitious...
Go with 200 and post like mad. :winkwink:

There is nothing wrong starting the 2000th message board because I am too, but the only reason I am doing it is so I can say whatever I want and not get banned :-)

You need a purpose for your board and that sets your market.

More and more established boards are getting away from posting incentives after the initial T-shirt etc., the contests did nothing more but bring prize chasers that did not add value to the board and did not click on sponsor banners if thats what your looking to get into.

Of course, I see Euro Lee running at me from the distance. He knows I think paying a dime per post is fucked up. He claims they want to give something back to the community, and I claim they are buying their posting content to compete for webmaster traffic.

Now, make it a buck a post and I can forgive Euro Lee :-)

Am I the only one who remembers Lensmans Golden "no pointing to other boards" rule?

LeeNoga 05-29-2003 09:38 AM

Where is the pointing to the other boards, I don't believe I named my board nor this gent...

Yes, I think the GFY webmaster shooting would be great board opener :-)

stain 05-29-2003 11:02 AM

thanks for your inputs guys, i will see what i can do to get it more outstanding from other boards...we will see.

i won't point to my board from here as well...if anybody wants to know it , you can contact me.

what do you think of buying some webmaster traffic, maybe in newsletters or something like this? would that work?

if nothing works, i will shoot myself ;)

I had a webmaster board once. Once...

I realized that if you post often, you can give it a kick start. But when you get busy and you don't post, the action sort of stops. If you get enough people posting by the time you tire out, you might be OK. However, with boards like GFY out there, why compete? I just send my traffic that went to my board over to GFY.

If you want a webmaster audience, try something different and original, not necessarily a chat board. Our D$ Show site has only grown in traffic, even without updates. The reason? Probably because not too many people have footage from the trade shows and parties. So we stuck with doing videos and got out of the chat board area.

Good luck though.

As was explained on your radio hon, both of those statements are true :)

If anyone was to tell you it wasnt a marketing ploy they would be lying :thumbsup

As you stated yourself a week or two after the $.10 payment for posting on the ARS Resources forum started, our post count doubled... if thats not good marketing what is :thumbsup

Who else can claim within 7-10 days they could double their post count not many i would rager oh and the thing with us is, its not just the $.10 per post, we also offer payments to webmasters who want to refer other people to post on the forum for us :thumbsup

Regards,

Lee
