highest-risk asteroid hitting Earth in 2032 has risen to 3.1%
The chance of the highest-risk asteroid hitting Earth in 2032 has risen to 3.1% by NASA.
Dubbed 2024 YR4, this asteroid is estimated to be around 177 feet (54 meters) in diameter – about the size of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
NASA’s estimated probability of asteroid 2024 YR4 hitting Earth in 2032 has steadily increased. Starting at 1.2% on February 7th, the likelihood rose to 2.3%, then 2.6%, and now stands at 3.1%.
The potential impact zone stretches across a vast area from the Pacific Ocean eastward through South America, the Atlantic, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Worryingly, this path intersects some of the most populous cities, such as Bogotá, Abidjan, Lagos, Khartoum, Mumbai, and Dhaka. This means it could be a potential threat to over 100 million people residing in these regions.
