does Skype closure effect you?

So how´s the Skype closure going to effect you?

For skyprivate, I read teams app & discord could be an answer...

for me, I prefer whats app & telegram anyway, they both run well on my phone & laptop, I cam & use the service for cam 2 cam & other private networking on these apps.

How´s the Skype closure going to effect you?

Retiree 03-03-2025 12:24 PM

Skype will just move over to Teams, with all contacts and conversations.

Publisher Bucks 03-03-2025 12:32 PM

We're migrating to WhatsApp, we all use it here but never integrated into the business side of things, guess we'll see how it works over the next year or so for business stuff, not just personal use.

videobunch 03-03-2025 12:41 PM

Yeah sucks. I hate having to learn new stuff. I looked at teams and whatsapp and so far not happy with either but could be me. From what I can see people have to have your number for whatsapp.

WhatsApp seems to be the most natural crossover for "personal" conversations, but I'm having a difficult time seeing it as a business solution. What about the office of people using Skype to communicate with clients? They cannot be expected to connect that to their personal phone number.

I've always found Teams to be annoying, so I don't see that as a reasonable crossover either.

CourtneyR 03-03-2025 02:16 PM

Messengers have changed so many times over the years. I remember starting with ICQ, and then AIM, and Yahoo. Eventually using all of them on Trillian.

Skype has been my go to for a long time now, only bummer is having to organize my list again.

I think it hurts us old guys the most. It feels like just yesterday we were saying goodbye to ICQ

O MARINA 03-03-2025 03:03 PM

ughhhhhhh

pornmasta 03-03-2025 03:43 PM

I have money there, I will lose as much as with epassporte: about $10...

You just unlocked a 2007 memory for me with Trillian. I thought it was so cool to combine all these chat programs into one.

I also remember starting on IRC, super old school.

I loved hearing that "uh oh" noise in the background.

Mr Pheer 03-03-2025 05:45 PM

I stopped using those a long time ago. Email still works just fine, and if I decide that I like you I may let you txt me, but that's not very likely.

Loved Trillian!!! All in one place!!!

2MuchMark 03-03-2025 06:39 PM

I will miss Skype - I remember when I first discovered it wayyyyyyyy back in the day. I think it was the only service at the time that allowed real-time voice calls. Game-changing back in the day...!

Major (Tom) 03-03-2025 07:07 PM

I always hated skype and never allowed notifications. Once icq died, email ftw

TheLegacy 03-03-2025 08:01 PM

Seems the majority of those I speak with are changing over to Telegram, Signal or WhatsApp with Telegram being the favorite

I find that interesting since apparently there was an easy transition of contacts and chat to MS Teams but no one wants to take it.

Rochard 03-03-2025 09:13 PM

I don't use Skype much any more.

The Porn Nerd 03-03-2025 09:36 PM

This sucks, now I will have to change my GFY sig - AGAIN.

JayMoyes 03-03-2025 09:45 PM

My heart sang when I first entered #Bondage and #Femdom on IRC... 1994.

As for Skype, I just don't get much call for it. I don't have to deal with American long distance charges on my cell service. I text from my desktop. The video side was handy for some personal stuff which can be handled on Marco Polo, Zoom, FaceTime and even Facebook. If anything industry related it was handy to work around gatekeeping.

LetterTwenty7 03-04-2025 01:43 AM

It will affect us in a good way - finally, we will not have to use it because customers want us to connect there.

CyberHustler 03-04-2025 01:45 AM

I def have memories on there.

That ain't no shit.

Courtney mentioning Trillian hit me about like the announcement of my 20yr HS reunion did. :1orglaugh

cerulean 03-04-2025 10:28 AM

I've used Skype professionally and personally for decades. I believe this is a shortsighted mistake, but this is normal behavior for big tech.

For clients with teams, I will have them migrate to Slack or Discord if they're up for it.

I think some clients will want me to setup self-hosted Jitsi environments for video calling.

~Evilin~ 03-04-2025 10:38 AM

Gmail and Telegram are still excellent to me!
Seems Skype haven't been updated for a long time - issues, bugs bugs buuugzzz aaa!

Skype has been absolute garbage for years, especially the mobile app. I still use it though, so this change is kind of a bummer.

blackmonsters 03-04-2025 01:04 PM

I stopped using Skype years ago.

Not because of Skype itself; but because it allowed assholes to talk to me.

:Oh crap

Huggles 03-04-2025 01:14 PM

I don't get it...

How are these apps not profitable? Why is WhatsApp a billion dollar app... yet:

MSN Messenger shut down
ICQ shut down
Skype shut down

Can someone explain?

Old messengers were PC-based. WhatsApp and others focused on mobile first, which is where communication shifted.

todservices 03-04-2025 01:45 PM

the only guys contacting me on skype were just trying to sell their stuff

Telegram in itself is nice and well done.
The only problem with telegram is that it's full of scammers and bots...

not tried teams at the moment, whats app is very easy & yes, no stress on servers, I think you´re right with whats app being the best idea than teams, we can only see...

trillian worked well using all the apps, we liked this and still continued to use it until a year or so ago

INever 03-06-2025 03:49 AM

Wechat and discord have good sound quality.

There's free voip call/text almost-any-number apps and sites.

Who or what put that flabby poison-pushing nerd in charge of so much ruin?

SBJ 03-06-2025 03:58 AM

I haven't signed into Skype in 2 or 3 years. These days I use Google Chat in Gmail for work.

Matyko 03-06-2025 07:00 AM

It seems most partners move over to Telegram.
I hated Skype for a long time, nowadays it wasn't so bad, but still...
Trying to add someone onad not finding him/her or finding fake accounts...
Telegram will be better.

would be great for a discord GFY room :thumbsup

you can try theporndude´s discord or come to the skyprivate room for live cam shows, but not sure where you can arrange like fun times for meeting, maybe an AFF discord room or just go on AFF and chat in their chat rooms :2 cents:
