Which CMS Script is Best for Running a Small Paysite?

I want to launch a small paysite without relying on third-party hosting or all-in-one solutions. I'm looking for a CMS script that doesn't cost hundreds per month and meets the following requirements:

- Optimized mobile design

- HLS and MPEG-DASH player support (or the ability to use my own)

- Easy to set up and manage

Are there any good options that fit these criteria?

- Grabbers for popular tube sites with the ability to download or use embed codes;
- SEO and much more.

BunnyCMS – For $150, it's worse than any WordPress theme, especially on mobile.

PornCMS – A joke, and it's third-party—their site is crap too.

Elevated X – No longer available for sale.

WordPress’s native billing support is a joke, and putting it under .htaccess is a whole different story.

Agreed, I almost forgot that was even an option.

I would be remiss in not mentioning that htpasswd protection is a dated, and potentially vulnerable method of securing any kind of directory or domain.

It is absolutely an acceptable way to protect something, and I use it all the time.

But you do not have access to statistics or analytics about usage, there is no way to two-factor authenticate your users, and brute-forcing and CAPTCHA protection is non-existent. You would need to rely on a WAF for that. Plus, you can't retarget users with htaccess/htpasswd as effectively as a programmed alternative.

I'm biased though, because I build software to replace htpasswd prompts.

WordPress gets a lot of hate, but it's definitely able to work as a small paysite CMS. I have clients who use LoginBlue with WordPress, and it works really well to deliver their content.

I was faced with moving a couple of very old paysites away from long forgotten CMS scripts and PHP 5.4. All of the commonly available CMS were dated and would require expensive time consuming templating.

I used Wordpress for the members area with an excellent theme and made a very minimal and fast responsive tour. It cost nothing and was all in my skillset. Also it works with CCBill's ancient RUM scripts. As well it looks fantastic and is fast and mobile friendly.

I wouldn't run a major site like this, but for prototyping for cheap it's great.
