Unmanaged dedicated hosting suggestion - I think I'm done with OVH!

I think I'm done with OVH! After 4 months and motherboard and PSU replacement, and numerous tickets, they still can't fix my server that randomly reboots every day or two.

Any dedicated hosting suggestions? I'm NOT looking for managed services.

Only requests are nvme drives with >1TB (2 nvme) and decently modern hardware. And the bandwidth should not be capped to some ridiculously low amount.

That would be tough to find a decent host that comparable to OVH pricing.

Beside the base server requirements - I would suggest posting your monthly budget as well and I'm sure that GFY hosting providers (Brad, Sly and the rest) will offer you what you need at right pricing point.

If you want modern equipment, even unmanaged, there's going to be a price and it's not in the OVH range. A new decent server with quality drives etc. is still going to run the provider over $1-1.5k depending on their set up and they are going to want to make that money back in 6-12 months unless they have surplus they are just looking to unload.

The OVH model is a great solution for many use cases, but as you can see, it's got its quirks.

I'll agree that this sounds like a price issue. You get what you pay for and all that.

Would colocation be an option for you, since you don't want managed hosting? You have a lot more control on the hardware that way.

Some data centers offer 1u and 2u rental spots for $100-200/month. You would purchase the server and install it yourself. Some offer services that will reboot it for you, but basically you would be on your own to manage it. Some 1u and 2u Supermicro or Dell PowerEdge's can be had for as little as $1,000-$2,000 + storage costs, for 3-5 year old boxes. Despite their age, these are pretty beefy machines, depending on your use case. I had a client who did this and ended up reselling via WHMCS for a while.

I would still recommend one of the hosting partners who offer managed hosting and advertise on gfy. Even if you don't want managed hosting, they take on the risk of the hardware, but they're more expensive than OVH.

I would try to exchange with another one from ovh first. Also you don't seem to understand what is unmanaged

You pay what you pay for, man . . .

I'm sure we could help. Drop me a message with your requirements and budget, and I'll see what can be done.

They build with substandard parts (ram, NVMe, motherboard)

E-mail [email protected] and ask Natalie for a deal

I had a server with them with 128 Gigs of ECC memory, and of course the memory would constantly fail. They would replace the modules and it would work a bit and then fail again. Finally it died completely and I was lucky to get my data off.

I'm not really upset as that is just how it is at OVH. Critical stuff should go at Vacares or elsewhere.

I will say that OVH has gotten better, and they are a lot better than other bargain hosts like Contabo.
