why were the 80's so gay

EddyTheDog 05-20-2025 02:13 AM

I was bought up in the 80's - The 80's didn't stand a chance...

TheLegacy 05-20-2025 05:55 AM

I was brought up in the 60s and 70s. The 80s were much more open to sexual freedoms and music. Girls were having more sex with guys - guys were driving muscle cars from the 70s that you could fix on your own.

We didn't have everyone glued to phones or pads instead we went to parties - smoked up - danced and fucked as much as we wanted to.

Some music was a bit strange but rock was still strong with Metallica, Motley Crue, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Van Halen and Guns N' Roses - Prince to name a few.

If you got into a fight you finished it without police or teachers and that was it - sure you got banged up but it taught you to suck it up and fight better not call your lawyer. We didn't need guns or knives - we used our fists and if there was a fight - it was for a damn good reason.

80s had great movies and TV shows but overall the music was LOUD !!! You left concerts ike The Who with ears ringing for a week - stereos from cars to headphones had no limiters on them

finally you had songs like Money for Nothing where lines such as "that little faggot got his own jet airplane"... was played on air. Later removed over sensitivity issues but strangely brought back since the word "faggot" was needed to understand the song. That would never happen now with the woke culture

the reason for the 2000´s to be so cool is because of the 80´s...

Madonna, Michael, Pet Shop Boys, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, Dire Straits!!

Not to forget the rave era started late 80´s :thumbsup

Nobody cared if you looked like a lady.

The title and inspiration to this song is when both Aerosmith, and Motley Crue were at a bar and Steve Tyler mistook from behind, Motley Crue's singer Vince Neil as a woman

Wise words...

I am from "58 and gay, at my 20-30 a lot about the "scene" was hidden, but it was a much better time then now with all the woke.

VikingMan 05-20-2025 12:42 PM

Not gay = Metallica (before the ghey sandman album), anything from Iron Maiden.

Not gay= Hank Jr ( country boy can survive)

Van Halen 1984 was not ghey

Huggles 05-20-2025 12:45 PM

Birth control made everything much more gay.

It wasn’t gay at the time. It was pushed as straight and masculine. Much how lgbt-bs is being pushed today.

Looking back, you see judas priest and freddie mercury being touted as masculine, but they were as queer as a 3 dollar bill.

It’s emblematic of how “hackable” our minds are.

Hah, I remember when one of my Jr High friends told me Rob Halford was gay. I was like that just bullshit, there's no way someone so cool could be gay. It's just not possible :1orglaugh

Metallica is from the bay area which is considered gay AF. They even played with Faith No More who was called "gay disco".

Theory is already showing holes.

It wasn't all good, but everything felt so real, raw and free in the 80s and 90s. Everybody could just be what they were and nobody cared to maga about it.

At least that was my experience in NYC at the time. Big time shift after 9/11 and it never stopped shifting, now everybody hates another group of somebodies for one reason or another 🙃

ross bleustein 06-02-2025 03:53 PM
