I need some great minds

Okay, got the new http://www.lumyr.com up and I want to release the e-book on the consulting stuff. Here is my dilemma and I could use some of you genius dudes out there to help me figure this one out:

The e-book is in Word Doc format and comes with an Excel spreadsheet. I don't want any trading of the file going out as the information is of course very valuable. How would you set it up so the paying clients and only the paying clients can read the material? If I can get the pages behind an HTaccess protected directory with an IP deal on it to lock all but approved IPs I could prevent sharing of password. But people could still save-as pages and share that way. So I'm stuck on this one as it goes beyond the protecting of members areas I normally need only worry about.

Thats not the right way to do an ebook Mark, they have special programs for it that turn it into an exe file when your done that you assign a license key too.

Only the people with the license key can read it, you design your html pages and then this program makes it into the book.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know where I could check out such a program?

That does not stop people from sharing.

I would suggest a custom .exe that would only allow the member to view the content, but not copy it.

Access would be granted through an XML Web Service.

This way you can track IP and record/block IPs on every viewing.

I once had a client which I setup multiple IP protection for.

Basically if the member tried to open/read the content from more than * IPs in * amount of time they are 'locked out'.

The XML Web Service would use SQL Server or MSDE to store the license key, username/password combo and information...and handle the multiple IP protection.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to hear more.

XML Web Services, a custom .exe and MSSQL is the way to do this.
