Can this be done to retain members?
 

I was thinking outside of the box. Typically u give surfers a tour then they join, then they get what u "promised" them....

But how about u timestamp members who come in. so someone coming in the first month will get 4 vids and stay a month with weekly updates. By the end of the first month, he would have seen 4 new vids.

But.. someone coming in the 2nd month wont get any of those updates.... until the end of the month.

So the longer a member stays, the more videos they get...

but for those just joining, they get the bare basic and start off again...

thus reducing so much time into getting more and more content.

Would that work?

that's a really interesting idea.. sounds like it could work.

it's an original idea but I don't think it's worth it.

Or instead of the money they spend on your site they could just go join a mega site and see thousands of vids regardless of how long theyve been there.

It would work if everyone did it, but the problem is without everyone doing it your site would lag in comparison to most sites out there for amount of content someone can see when they sign up..so why wait around ..just join a site that gives you everything on entry.

Actually wouldn't that kinda compare to a dialer solution with per minute charges, but a bit less expensive...there are people who use them for sure. We make decent money off of them. Maybe doing it so that they can choose that as a less expensive option than full members.

Something that might work to retain members would just be some kind of bonus system. Say you're running several paysites. If a member of one site remains a member for a certain amount of months, give them a free one month to another of your sites, no strings attached. Maybe they'll join full to that one too, or stick around till the next cycle goes by and get another free month to a different site. Is anyone already doing something like this?

All good sites make money on the fact that ex members come back after seeing all the other 99% of crap sites out there but if they would have to start from scratch again they will not re-join. :2 cents:

I have thought of this idea many times, though I always come to the conclusion that it'd be better to show the new member 100 videos, as opposed to 50 and then over the course of the next few months give them 50 more.. The member would realize the large selection and more likely to stay if they like the content.

Yeah, but this is...if you think about it...a way of replacing trials for those that have them. Instead of the all you can eat $1.95 - you get a full view of the entire members section but only access to a portion of it until you become a full member. Sort of like a tour within the members section. "sign up for a sneak preview and see blah blah blah for only $XXX" - then a promo inside the pre-members section showing them everything they get for full membership.

Anything less than 30 day trials are the sales tool of desperation. :2 cents:

I will just repeat this. Good sites and good marketing will always make more money than gimmicks.

Another thing that works good on some sites is to give the customer a free dvd if they join for say 3-6 months.

make it easy, let them pick either a straight (guy/girl) or a gay cd (all male)

We ship these dvd promos for alot of companies.

Fucking excellent idea if you can design the software to make it work.
Personally i like to remove all the cancel buttons and links to the billing companies. I helps keep members for months and months and is a lot less work.

How many people do you think have signed up for a site because the tour looks fantastic and find out that the members section is crap? How many of those same people do you think are wary of every signing up for a site again? The trial works in this situation.

As far as price manipulation, I have 9 pay sites. Some with trials, some without. If you think marketing, a good membership section and a pretty tour is all that plays into running a pay site you're wrong.

Specific statistics as to what a person will and won't pay for a particular site, as well as what the monthly recurring level and/or trial will return the most revenue, also factor into it and are figures that can be calculated over time with reliable results.
