Car Aduio Recommendations?
I want a new car audio system. Something really cool, it needs to play mp3's -- any experts in here want to make a recommendation?
Steve Lightspeed |
I would go with the pioneer decks for your head unit, almost all of them play mp3's plus they got great controls, built in eq, and fully adjustable bass control.. Are you going to be putting in amplifiers, and subwoofers etc.??

Yeah, I want to pimp out my 72 Gremlin
|
Install a Linux server in the trunk with a terabyte of HD space.
|
Pioneer for the head unit and Polk for the speakers, can't go wrong with that. :)
|
I agree polk makes great speakers for the standard audio enthusiest, I have MB Quart component speakers all throughout my truck.. but they are really highend and a 4"in component set is around 250.00 before installation.. its funny the speakers in my truck cost more than the amplifiers.. about 1400,00 in component speakers... (not including subwoofers)... But if u dont need high end just good speakers Polk are solid speakers and can be found at circuit city or best buy I believe, so can the pioneer head units..

screw pioneer! i f'n hate pioneer head units, with a passion. well, all pioneer products.
kenwood head unit and db quartz components......:thumbsup |
all the shit i work with in the shop, here's what i deal with in my personal vehicles exclusively. alpine for the electronics, period. anps & decks. subs are all JL audio, period. for main speakers, if you want something that sounds truly amazing, boston pro seperates. they run about $650 for a set, but they are fucking worth it. if you're not looking to spend that much, i'd go with some nice alpine or eclipse speakers (owned both.. pretty nice, especially the alpine ddrives).
i work on a lot of stereo equipment, and it's a shame what some people put in their rides :(. even the stuff in my truck isn't that fancy/expensive, but it sounds pretty nice. eclipse coaxials with an alpine cd deck. no amp or anything, it's just a daily. but the quality is good. |
iroc hit it right on
Alpine all the way for electronics. (or maybe rockford fosgate for an amp) JL Audio no doubt for the woofers :thumbsup and I'm sticking with MB Quartz for the main speakers. Of course you're a baller and need to add some TV's |
Funny you should mention it...... I'm looking into upgrading my system as well. I've been looking at the Kenwood Music Keg, which holds about 10Gigs worth of MP3s........
Any good? Anyone? |
Fuck Pioneer... not sure friendly displays at all... I thing their design for their stereos suck
I have a panasonic mp3 player... Panasonic is known to have the most features. I would diffently recommend them! awesome tech support Here is my MP3 player: http://pix.crutchfield.com/products/...3dfx883-f.jpeg sorry big pic |
here is the nighttime display:
this one is about $280 but if you want more features... also a model with mp3 and DVD playback. check out www.crutchfield.com http://pix.crutchfield.com/products/...3-o_night.jpeg |
I personally will never buy another kenwood anything, but thats my :2 cents:
Forgot one company to list if you really want your car system to be the max: McIntosh |
Well personally I like CLARION head units....The rest is not that good but the headunits are really great.
For the 2 woofers, I have infinity kappa serie. And for the tweeters, and midrange tones, also Infinity kappa serie... For the amp, I bought an infinity as well....But groundzero has some real nice ones as well...Just don't buy JBL GTO serie. But that is my personal thought :) My condensator, is from Groundzero...Buy one when you have a havier amp then 500 watt, otherwise you can't get the watts out of your amp.... You can do also some searching on http://www.carreview.com/reviewscrx.aspx (was always a great free resource, looks like it's paid and sponsored now, not sure tho) Andre |

All this in a Extended Cab 2002 1500 Silverado. This is a nice setup, I'm going to add on a Navigation on to the system soon, as soon as I get some more $$$. How much are you looking to spend? I would say that all that up top put together, is a good $5000! And they have changers that allow MP3's too. Mine doesn't! jDoG |
Start with a decent car. No sense in putting a nice audio system in a shtty car.
|
lol, I never understood people who get stereos to play music outside their car ;p
poseurs |
Anyone here have a 00 Escalade or something similar with a good system? I'm pretty sure I'm picking up my escalade on wednesday. Been looking at mods and systems etc, thought I would see if anyone here did anything to theirs.

In 1996 I bought a brand new Ford Explorer. I spent more money on the stereo than I did on the vehicle itself.
Took 1st or 2nd place in every IASCA competition I entered. Alpine is overpriced and overrated. Good stuff but still, I prefer Pioneer. Subs: JL Audio Seperates: MB Quart. Tried Polk and did ok but Quart kicks ass. AMPS: No clue these days. I was using Precision Power Art Series back then and they were all liquid cooled. EQ's and so forth: Audiocontrol. Someday I will actually build the next system that I already have mapped out. It will be sweet. Oh and Steve...If you are really looking for something different....Go all out and contact Dave "The Fishman" Rivera or Sean McCray to do your install. Dave has built a lot of cool shit including demo cars for companies like StreetWires and Sean has done installs for Oscer de la hoya and Snoop Dog. Both of them are great guys and will work well with you. |

Nakamichi :)

I like Pioneer decks, MB Quart mids and highs and either JL audio subs or if you want to drive down to Tempe stop by Rockford Fosgate and they will hook you up phat with some nice bump in your trunk.
I use to be big into car audio and I only competed in one IASCA competion but in the 251-500 watt class in 1996 I was pumping 147.3 decibils with four 15" rockford fosgates subs anda couple under rated fosgate amps |

Have had good luck with:
Kenwood (head units) Alpine (head units) Polk (speakers and subs if you want good tight bass instead of that blobby idiot bass) JBL speakers Eclipse amps I don't care what anyone says about JBL. They sound great. So do Polks. Infinitis blow, even if they are supposed to be the step-up from JBL from the same company. NEVER Japanese speakers, like Kenwood or whatever. Japanese make good electronics, but Americans and Germans make much better speakers. :2 cents: ŻOverscoreŻ |
i like my clarion headunit.. it plays mp3s.. if its not last years model its the one before but it works great. my friend has a clarion LCD touchscreen dvd player. it of course plays mp3s too and most also now play wma's
i went with infinity for my front and rear speakers and got a polk/momo sub powered by a rockford amp. my infinities are powered by a alpine amp.. it sounds pretty good too. |
i don't know what pioneer head decks are like now, but i have one that is over 5 yrs old and still works perfectly. if nothing else they will sure last a long time. as for the rest of my system i have 2 fosgate punch 12s and a punch 500 amp to run them. a punch 100 running 2 pioneer 4 way 6x9's and 2 pioneer 3 1/2" in the dash running off the head deck, sounds pretty nice.
