AltaVista first page vs. Google first page
Just got a first page search result listing on AltaVista for a very popular keyword out of over 8 million results.
Anyone else have or had one smack on the first page? Wondering how that compares to Google currently, since AV has pretty much shrunk way down in market share. |
Although Altavista is definitely nowhere compared to Google's search volume, they do get a significant portion of their searches towards adult keywords.
Congrats to you! WG |
Gratz on the #1
AV is just a drop in the engine traffic bucket, but it means you are on the right track! I still think they are using too many sponsored listings... that's what killed them before, and it'll keep killing them as long as they do it. |
Thanks!
This new domain service I hooked up with below is fucking awesome. They just grabbed another killer domain for me virtually the minute it expired. And I have one more in the que still waiting to drop and grab which is a fantastic mainstream computer related domain. Impressive as heck. :thumbsup |
I'm curious KRL, does Pool offer any extra incentive over the other domain snapper services such as Snap Names or Name Winner?

congratz KRL! :thumbsup

Of course google is the best but still, Altavista is a very good and popular search engine and really, number one of 8 mil. results it really is something. So what else can i say? CONGRATS!!!!

Pool has been grabbing successfully so far from what I've heard on other boards better than the others. |

As for AV, I still get traffic from them, although not as much as google. It looks like MS will be hitting the market hard in the near future when longhorn is released, I can't wait. Personally I find it frustrating that google controls like 80% of U.S. websearches. |
I've had hundreds of first page listings over the past 6 years on alta vista, excite, and inktomi
havent had much luck with google |

Google runs on 1,000's of machines running *Linux*. Congrats for your AV listing. |
Actually MS did make an unofficial bid for google. When google turned them down they immediately began production of their own search technology.
