BERLUSCONI: nazi remarks in EU parliament

http://asia.reuters.com/newsArticle....toryID=3025602

"Mr. Schulz, I know there is in Italy a man producing a film on the Nazi concentration camps. I would like to suggest you for the role of leader. You'd be perfect," Berlusconi exclaimed to jeers in the chamber.

... I found his speech quite amusing, looks like most others didnīt ...

reynold 07-03-2003 02:14 AM

Yes it was rediculous. Happily enough, Schultz had a good reply

Theo 07-03-2003 02:18 AM

berlusconi is the italian word for corruption

Mr.Fiction 07-03-2003 02:19 AM

I don't think it was just that one issue. The guy who made the comments seems to have been hated by most of Europe before he ever opened his mouth.

Kolargol 07-03-2003 02:23 AM

This stupid fuck Berlusconi could play capo in a movie about Mussolini and italian camps in 1940. Fucking fascist!

Yes and yet he is still getting elected. I guess that says something about Italian politics?

i had a comment, but i forgot it, i figured id annotate that ...

gxer 07-03-2003 03:04 AM

He told what he told .
It was a private answer to the private
person Schultz not to all german people.

So it's an example of the relationship between
politics and not between countries.

Sarah_Jayne 07-03-2003 04:27 AM

now he is saying the question was a plant to get him to say something like that

As much as I do not like Berlusconi that Schulz leftist should have shut his mouth in the first place. After all, everything he said was basically just an ASSumption based on a huge title story in germany's biggest news magazine which came out just a day or two before the incident.

Or what _proof_ did Schulz have? I too believe that Berlusconi is guilty of a thing or two but he is democratically elected by the majority of Italians, and of all these trials none has found him guilty (yet). So while journalist etc. certainly can and will brag about this, and try to reveal more facts... , and courts will go on with their investigations, what the fuck did the member of EU parliament Schulz think when he - based on HEARSAY - accused the newly assigned Pres of EU with ridiculously vague yet slandering terms, without proof, publically, in the EU parliament?

Either have a case and bring it on, or shut the fuck up. It is certainly uncommon and NOT pc to do what Schulz did, and I am not aware of Schulz or the EU parliament being known as a place of revolutionary resistance or moral instance or whatever

So either yell at everyone who you THINK is questionable around there (I am sure there are quite a few) or shut up. Just picking Berlusconi because it seemed to be hip right now is so typical for a socialdemocratic moralist like Schulz. What about unguilty before proven guilty, and ... diplomacy?

mafia rules the world

the leader of the italian government should know how to deal with such situations, if he can't he's not worth beeing the leader of europe. i hope these 6 months will be over soon.
he has something to hide, why should some politician make a law to get immunity for the rest of his time in government? he bought his win, thats a fact! he bought it like he bought his tv-stations.

Marie 07-03-2003 05:26 AM

I can't imagine that there's any european (except for italians - maybe- so they could get rid of him in italy) that voted for him. He must be crazy to make such remarks in the position that he's in now. Unbelievable.

Don't you guys find it stupid too that all those EC people speak in their own languages? With those fucking stupid translators? I just don't get that. Wanna sit there? Learn to speak the same language. English, French, Croatian, WHATEVER.

Sarah_Jayne 07-03-2003 05:33 AM

well in the UN they use the translators. There isn't a common European language so why not? Gosh, can you imagine the decade it would take to debate which langauge to make it.

nuvolenji 07-03-2003 05:35 AM

I am from Italy and I feel utterly embarassed by this guy. Still can't understand why people are STILL supporting him. A comic strip on one of Italy's main newpapers today was like..."The start of the Irish presidency of European Community is just six months away". hopefully....
