Luc,

I see you in Chicago and its gonna be more $$ might want to look at your paper and call the real estate places and go check some places out to get a good feel of pricing in your area

Luc 07-13-2003 06:40 PM

thanks juicy.

yeah. i checked out a few places. im in the suburbs so average
800sqft place is like $1800-$2800/month

i'm tryin get a general price range to have something to compare to.

:)

$300

liquidmoe 07-13-2003 07:06 PM

Out of curiousity why exactly an office. I mean I understand completely if you have a large number of employees and even then it may make more sense to just rent out some residential spot and work from there, unless you need the street address for something specific (legal issues, bank etc.)

I mean think about it for the cost of rent for office space, $2-$3K per month you can rent out some pretty hot residential space and have much more comfort. Hell you could rent out an entire house with a couple of stories :)

Just wondering is all.

from my bedroom

lingolizzard 07-13-2003 07:12 PM

you can run into zoning issues setting up shop in a residental area.

we pay a few hundred a month for 300 square feet, power, internet included

no zoning issues if you're a one man operation

plexer 07-13-2003 07:19 PM

In jersey:

$1200 for the office, 1000 Sq.Feet.
$925 for the T1

:thumbsup

LUC thats alot. Out here on Long Island real estate is through the roof. I am in a 5000 sq foot warehouse with 10 percent office. 2 year lease , with 2 month notice cancellation clause I pay 2400 per month. I lucked on internet access. We get for 99 bucks a month business cable connection with cable tv for like 15 bucks more. Utilities run around few hundred per month.

Like it was mentioned unless you got employees and such and ready to take the leap and grow no need to get an office.

Sharky 07-13-2003 07:19 PM

I just moved into a 1200 sq/ft place and am paying roughly $14.50 per foot(per year) Not a bad price in this area.. it comes out to $1400+/mo with tax. We moved from an office building to retail space so we have store front. we are doing more and more mainstream website design, so we decided to try it out.
T1 here is $600/mo and electricity will run me about $200-250/mo.

Luc 07-13-2003 07:32 PM

thanks a lot guys.

looks like i'll be moving out of town if i want to save
some money. rent here is expensive because of the area,
but that doesn't really matter.

why move? i can't stand working at home. dog, girlfriend
constantly nagging and the same old bullshit. i'm also tied to the
computer 24/7.

it's hard to sit back and just chill when this thing is always on
telling me i've got orders and mail waiting to be processed.

thanks for giving me the price ranges, now i have something
to work with.

:)

Sounds like some good reasons. I know when I was telecommuting for work I ended up doing way more than 8 hours a day, so even though I thought I was lucking out because I could get to "work" in 2 mins flat, my employer was actually benefiting more than me.

Can't leave your work at the office, if your office is your home. But seriously since you are a one man show you should think of renting some residential space, you wont have any zoning conflicts etc.

Just dont start shooting content without the paper work :thumbsup

No way I could afford an office. Plus my mom would have to wake up earlier to drive me there LOL!

jennycards 07-13-2003 10:32 PM

My company pays EUR 400.00 for some 60 sqm (METERS, not feet) ... to the lucky owner of that place ... who is myself :)

ThePornGuy 07-13-2003 10:50 PM

They have some retail space over here about 50 miles from atlanta for 8$ sq/ft

Timi 07-14-2003 05:20 AM

I had a dedicated office built into my home with its own entry so, I dont have to enter the main living part of the home during the day.

It really does make a huge difference and there are no costs to commute ( all 20 steps downstairs and into the office) no office politics / bullshit / funky colds from that typhoid mary asshole we all have worked with.

There also is no line for lunch. This is all deductible on the taxes.

I'll never get my office on again. Telecommute is the key!
