Let's talk about servers

We are looking to add an additional server, and have been reading various threads on a few boards, as well as following links to check out the various rates out there.

While UnitedColo seems to have the best prices, followed by RackShack, there seems to be some dispute as to the quality of their support, etc.

So, who out there can compete with those two, but actually provide support if and when it is needed?

Anyone care to make any deals? Feel free to contact me at ICQ 16075497 or [email protected]

Thank you for your time.

One word, PERFECT :thumbsup

I must say that in all areas of hosting business (Tech / Support / Relations) they are just great.

My advice would be, do talk to them once before deciding anything :winkwink:

hmmm, 1,000 GB vs 150 GB for essentially the same price. That doesn't really seem to be very competitive. Do they send someone over to clean the house every once in a while?

Why do you think paying a little more for 850 GB less transfer as being a good value?

I am interested in hearing why.

do not go with united colo, they have just been sold, and we have yet to see the full implications by the sale.

Rackshack has been doing very very well for 6-8 months now.
I have had a few servers there for more than a year, and havent had any downtime the last 6 months.
Their prices are unmatchable (with multi gigabit/homed network excl. cogent), but yes, servers are unmanaged.

I would also contact this guy, Emil from atrivo at icq: 23531098!
I put my freehosting clients on his network (multihomed, top servers and support) for $30/mbps.

Phatservers.com are great! I wanted a dedicated and they set me up in less than one hour, check them out.

:thumbsup

easyfun 07-17-2003 02:38 AM

I have several boxes with simplecom.net - Good service and good support

Matt_WildCash 07-17-2003 02:44 AM

Apparently ISPRIMES prices have gone up a lot and they can't do the good deals they used too. Pity

Keev 07-17-2003 02:45 AM

Well you also have to look at the quality of the bandwidth your getting. cogent, aleron, and a couple others are pretty crappy... Some of these hosts on here use some pretty shitty stuff and charge as if its gold.

Ask them who there providers are and run trace routes from multiple locations around the united states you might find some very interesting stuff.

Other than that look at the tech support...

I know ReliableServers.net uses Internap, Nac, Cable & Wireless, MFN

Yeah, I met Moose at the sex.com party Saturday, and was going to talk to him about that, but somehow we got seperated before I got to the business end of the discussion.

I find it ironic that our current server dropped for a few minutes while you were making that post

www.realitychecknetwork.com - hosting like no tommorrow

Matt_WildCash 07-17-2003 05:52 AM

The person who started this thread was after cheap bandwidth hosts not expensive ones so if your a host and post in the thread why not state what you can do for 10 megabits so people can get an idea.

Definately see Mike from Webair... Great Guy

He will match or beat just about any reasonable deal out there.

candyflip 07-17-2003 07:39 AM

Hey Baddog...

I've just setup a box with Rackshack this past week. I've placed 2 support phone calls, 2 trouble tickets and have been in the chat room. I must say...support so far has been top notch. Most of my questions were answered immediately, and trouble tickets were taken care of completely within 1 hour of submission.

Anyone I've talked to about their Rackshack servers raves for the most part.

I'm also in the process of setting up a box with Extremerack, as they offered us a deal that NO ONE could match. They might be worth checking out too. It's run by the same folks that do the Adult Outsourcing program.

keyDet79 07-17-2003 07:43 AM

Baddog, check out VibeHosting.com, with 3,000 Gigs at $395/mo (no setup fee) we are only $95 more than UnitedColo (same plan, dual (2) HDD, 2.4GHz). Note that with us you also get a 100Mbit burstable port (instead of 10mbit) and 1GB DDR PC2700 instead of SDRAM. And we can beat Rackshack's prices while delivering better support and more flexibility when it comes to bandwidth or hardware upgrades/downgrades.

Moose has been pretty busy lately with some new stuff that should be implemented within the next couple weeks. We're all pretty excited about it.

Anyway, I'll be around all day, if you would like a quote from Phat Servers just hit me up on ICQ at 147479144 or email at [email protected] .

I won't comment on our tech support. Actions are much more powerful than words. Test it out yourself by sending a message to [email protected] .

Hope to hear from you soon...

Very nice price :thumbsup

Can you explain how overages are calculated/charged?

Anyone here using them for dedicated hosting?

If so, for how long and what are they like?

Groove 07-17-2003 10:40 AM

Also keyDet79...

Are you multihomed?

Who are your bandwidth providers?

And if you're using cogent, what percentage?
