Do You Like Grain In Pictures?

This is a shot I did of the gorgeous Pantera this past weekend. Shot it in color and then ran a custom action that produces grain similiar to Kodak Tri-X 400asa 'black and white' film. Then I added some color back in - thoughts???

I don't know about the grain but I like Pantera :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
the pic is great

Gutterboy 07-29-2003 04:02 PM

I'm a no grain man

Depends on the quality of the girl and the shoot, I'd imagine. Anything can look good if it's done correctly. Usually, though, things like that aren't.

I like it in an artistic sense...
But I dont think its what Id be looking for if I was a surfer trying to get off

I love grain.

Elli 07-29-2003 04:05 PM

I'm trying to cut down on my carbs, actually.

Honestly though, I posted some photoshopped pics a week ago. That day I got 6 emails asking to see the originals, so I ended up posting both anyway. They didn't seem to like the effect. :(

I'm sure your thoughts are shared by many a surfer looking to get off. I try to avoid doing anything "too artsy" for our members area because you just never know what people will think. I also have to think about the fact that we have thousands and thousands of members and it would be absolutely impossible to please them all. So, I try to offer as much variety as I can (within the confines of my budget and studio limitations).

It's not uncommon for a few members to shoot off an email to Oliver saying they didn't like this - or didn't like that. But considering how many members we have to try to keep happy overall, trying a little something different once in a while can't be a bad thing - IMHO.

I like the artsy pictures.

However, for a porn site, the only pics that I have seen photoshopped out of recognition are crap photos anyways.

Maybe one or two for my members, or as a promo, but not for the entire site.

I think it looks pretty cool. Not every set has to be high gloss, perfect.... It is new and interesting. Not every member will like it, some will though. Their is always another update to do tomorrow, so please the ney sayers then.

Yea - we update 3 times a week - don't have to wait long for a new update that's for sure :winkwink:

There is a photog named Tony Ward who shoots a lot of black and white grainy type shit for Penthouse Magazine. I have always loved his approach to his work. He not only uses grain as an effect, but he also uses very moody lighting which enhances the artistic flavor of his work. I guess I just like the fact that he's not affraid to work out there on the edge.

eh...not a bad attempt, just a little too obvious that its a stock photoshop filter, and a little hard to see the original within the picture. Tone the effect down a little and you might have something there

Scootermuze 07-29-2003 05:39 PM

It would be fine for artwork type stuff, but I don't think it'd be a make ya/break ya thing on a porn site..

Id like to see that pic with just a nice nude pose..

but that's just me...

lickmymonster 07-29-2003 05:48 PM

I like it. But you have to take into account that I've been to photo school.

I don't use Balcar but I use their accessories (7" reflectors). I use the Paul Buff Ultra 1200s but the reflectors that come with them suck. Luckily for me, the Balcar reflectors kick major ass and fit my lights perfectly. I've only heard great things about Balcar though :thumbsup

I think Pantera's picture would have more "oomph" to it with a spot of color... like her nipple still being pink.

That upward shot of the fishnet body stocking gal is fantastic, though.
I'm still trying to figure out how you get all of your digital pictures to look so damn... glossy. Like you printed it on the most expensive extra-gloss film paper in existence, and taped it up on our screens. :thumbsup

HEARTBREAKER 07-29-2003 08:10 PM

never tried but who knows...the result might be nice!:)

Why 07-29-2003 08:16 PM

i think a little grain is ok, that one had a bit too much.

danarchy 07-29-2003 08:16 PM

no

sumphatpimp 07-29-2003 08:45 PM

few weeks ago I wandered into a vintage porn site ie porn from back in the 1950's or earlier. yes a lot of it was black and white and grainy, along with other obvious things of that time.

after awhile it did begin to turn me on a bit. maybe because it was different than what is common today.

I believe this can be a niche of a sort if done right. may not be big but I think black and white and grainey may just be a vaible niche.

Do a test, put up a small area on your site and see how it flys.
If surfers don't like it you can always take it down.

well, that is my :2 cents:
