How does a dialer work exactely?
In light of the resent CC-Billing problems I want to look into dialers to have a backup for the worst case scenario. I never used any dialer and I have only a little knowledge about it. Here are some questions I have.
Does a dialer generally bill for a site hosted by the dialer publisher or can you bill your own members section? I assume there are both types of dialers out there. Is it difficult to set up a dialer for my own paysites? Is it possible to use the same dialer for all my paysites (one download not multiple)? Do I have to setup a mirror members section for dialer and cc billing working together? I would love to here the answers to the questions and if the answers would be longer than yes or no I would appreciate it. If I surf dialer sites they hardly have any infos available on how this works and I really like to know more. Any tutorial would be appreciated also. Thanks |
NoCreditCard has a way you can setup the dialer for your own content area.
Talk to Mitch at the show if you're going to be there. Here's the link for details: Instant Access (Dialer) Provider |
If you're going to Internext look up a UK company "Global Charge" or check out their site www.globalcharge.com
I'm doing ok with their dialers and they pay 35 days after the end of a month straight in to your bank acct and I haven't had a problem in over a year of working with them. |

Pickup your phone receiver and hold it up to your PC speaker. Then click play. As an example, this will connect you to the US Atomic Clock Recorded Time Announcement Message in Boulder CO. |
Bit old thread but well I'll answer it anyway...
A dialer works like this: You either download an .exe file and execute it or you activate an activeX certificate that installs the dialer on your mashine (most temporarily). This program then either asks you for the correct Modem (dropdown menu to choose) or automaticly selects the correct modem it can dial out on. Then you either click 'YES,Connect' or it connects on it's own if you already clicked the cert and dials into a Dial-up server thru a PRN (Premium Rate Number). These Numbers can have different rates. Either pay per minute(depends on the country. In Germany it's 1.86 mostly),Vario (i.e. 29.90 per call plus 2.99 per minute) or Dropcharge, where you get charged a fixed amount per call. You'll get an IP from a special range from that Dial-up Server, which the members-area provider has to have in his htaccess. So you gain access and can browse the content while you pay per minute or you paid a fixed amount. It depends on the Dialer if it works exactly like that, but thats the usual way dialers work. Cheers, JOKER |
And specificly to your questions:

For the Dialer-provider it can be compiling a complete new dialer or in our case a few-minutes job to just set your infos up. Quote:
With us you would need a different template for every paysite (our html-templates are already what you call the dialer). Quote:
You have to decide it your self if that puts you in situation of 2 different sections :) Cheers, JOKER |
