I just got my own fucking VISA merchant acct.

Just got a phone call from our local acquirer ... Yes, I made it :drinkup

Though Mastercard in my country refuses to accept any adult companies.

So: what shall I do next? Split it up? Visa on my own merchant account MasterCard + U.S. checks on iBill (or CCBill ?)

alias 07-30-2003 11:03 AM

that sounds sensible

Calvinguy 07-30-2003 11:04 AM

Congrats....

Who will you use for transactions?

None of the "regular" companies (Netbling, Jettis) seem to be able to handle my European merchant account. On the other hand their "offshore" merchant accounts require a minimum monthly revenue of $50k ... too much for me (yet)

So I am going to use a local, very cheap service that does not scrub though.

My idea is to scrub myself, primarily based on the country where the customer's IP is from ... a good database comes from Maxmind.

In fact my site has a lot of (non-backcharging) female customers. They are using my service to send greeting cards to their husbands or lovers :)

Interesting how your merchant can only process VISA and not the other

Calvinguy 07-30-2003 11:26 AM

I was thinking of using http://www.vxsbill.com then/if I get myself a merchant account. They have nice support and answer pretty fast.

Congrats on your merchant account. I'm not sure if you know from when we communicated that Netbilling can process your ACH/Check payments for only 3.25% and 40¢ per transactiion if you are interested or stop by our booth if you will be at Internext.

Thank you, Mitch Farber

Because Visa and MasterCard have different acquirer companies in my country; and apperently different rules.

The MasterCard guy told me it was just because of the industry; not because of me or my company. In fact I already have a MC merchant account with them but for a mainstream business.

The maxmind database is better than nothing, but it is far from perfect.

That sounds very interesting. I wont be at Internext though ... too much to travel just for partying.

Please send me more details ... I guess you still have my address.

Why would want a merchant account there if you only can process visa?

Bear 07-30-2003 12:51 PM

The 3rd processing industry is getting weird. Just want to get more information, for the worst case.

Yes, but if he is going through the hassle of setting up a merchant account in another country it would be more profitable to select another country like the netherlands and have both visa and mastercard.

Pretty easy:

1) Prepare a legal (!) website ... fully compliant with E.U. laws (has to disclose your name, address, phone number etc., include your terms & conditions)

2) Fill out Visa's application.

3) Include some general information about your website, something about how you plan to protect children from accessing it ... and snailmail it to Visa.

4) Maybe it helped I already had a zero-backcharge mainstream merchant account :Graucho

MAGNET 07-30-2003 01:05 PM

Here is what you should do make a nice websites so people will donate money to the poor kids in 3 world countries, that will be a good use for your account then donate them the money you make..

Definitely yes. And don't forget: incorporating in Europe may be costly, very costly.
