When will this Acacia patent expire?

Somebody just asked me... I'm wondering...?

Sly_RJ 07-30-2003 02:25 PM

2011.

Johny Traffic 07-30-2003 02:25 PM

2012 I think

Darren 07-30-2003 02:26 PM

both

2011 in USA

2012 International.

Now wait a minute... if I remember correctly, the patent was established in 1991. That's 20 years of patent protection. That seems like an awful long time for patent protection, especially when dealing with rapid changing technology such as the Internet.

I think the standard patent protection for medicines is 7 years, could be wrong though.

I thought they just had a US patent, not international.

hummm, a case could me made for this. 20 years IS execssive considering the half life of anything on the net.

patents are to PROTECT the people who CREATE things - not for lining the pockets of laywers that create nothing and live to feed of others.

And certainly not for hindering the growth of said item, in this case, the Internet.

Looks like I have some email to write tonight. If anyone has more information on this, please email or ICQ me...
