Internext - Broken window

So who broke the window roofs at the Westin during Internext by throwing things from there room?

Just my opinion, but didn't think that was cool at all.

kath 08-06-2003 09:18 AM

I was wondering the same thing... we woke up, saw the repair guys down there working furiously and noted the red underwear and other things thrown around the glass roof.

Unfortunately it comes with the territory.

Convention Go-ers (not just OUR industry) + FREE BOOZE + 3-4 Days of Straight Partying = Hotel Damage.

I'm sure the Diplomat wasn't phased by it at all but I agree... not cool. :feels-hot

AaronM 08-06-2003 09:50 AM

Funny thing is that one of the people who did it was standing 2 feet from the security people at the back door and bragging about it. Then he turned around and realised security was there and said "uh...not really. Just kidding."

The way he tried to cover his tracks after that was priceless. I can not believe he got away with it.

Too funny

Yeah, water was POURING into the hotel lobby... I didn't make the connection right away... I thought it was unusual at the time because these hotels are designed to withstand hurricanes, but obviously the architect did not plan on adult webmasters throwing shit out the window -- f=mg is a real bitch :1orglaugh

Agreed that alot of conventions get out of hand. But an adult convention there is already controversial in the area and things like this hurt our rep. even more, unfortunately.

Danny_C 08-06-2003 12:11 PM

That definitely makes us look bad, and I think it's a shame, because the hotel loved us last year. Our industry has attracted too many kids.

Jakke PNG 08-06-2003 12:13 PM

Some window was broken?

Dildozer 08-06-2003 12:15 PM

Breaking those windows was the highpoint of my internext experience

rocki 08-06-2003 12:16 PM

yeah that was totally un cool... did you see that one repair guy... WOW... his name was Max, 33 years old, single... :thumbsup

The "kid" in question ahs been around for awhile now. He is not new to the business.

I like the guy but this a was pretty fuck up thing for him to do. :(

Someone threw shit over a balcony to break the glass ceilings at the Diplomat... and succeeded.

DirtyDanza 08-06-2003 12:55 PM

Now that's ghetto.

Internext this year sounded... interesting.

JohnW 08-06-2003 01:00 PM

Lame...
How does throwing shit out of a window to break the ceiling glass above a hotel lobby below make you cool?
Seems kinda childish to me...

i was at a bachelor party once where the guys ..all in their 30's and supposed white collar workers sat on the balcony and spit on the strippers, stole their money, and threw beer on them...they ran like rabbits when fire arms were produced.:1orglaugh

doesnt matter how old they are.. seem immaturity happens when they group together and start drinking..brings some back to being 5 the thrill you get when throwing a rock at a car driving by then you run and hide...:1orglaugh

some poeple have no respect for others property.

PR_Phil 08-06-2003 01:09 PM

Shit, I didn't even realize a window broke, must have slept right through it! The people beside me got kicked out on Sunday Night, maybe it was them, not sure who they were though...young guy and a girl

Fletch XXX 08-06-2003 01:14 PM

I did notice the police hanging around more in the lobby after this happened.

What a fucking moron ... people like that OUGHT to be arrested.

JohnW 08-06-2003 01:28 PM

People like that shouldn't be allowed back to the shows...IMO. It's up to the organizers of the events to weed out the cronic "bad seeds" and ban them from attending.

They obviously don't know how to behave at these functions and in turn, it gives everyone else who CAN behave themselves a bad rap.

=)

Dawgy 08-06-2003 01:36 PM

wonder if thats the same person who threw a bottle at us in the hot tub on the upper level? it landed less than a foot from us & showered us in glass... would have killed someone if it hit a foot to the left... very fucking uncool.

Carrie 08-06-2003 01:39 PM

It makes me wonder what the Westin is thinking about this right now.
Remember folks, they *do* discount these rooms for us, so on one hand they're losing money.
Of course they do gain that money back quite a bit from money spent at the bar - tips don't go to the hotel, they go to the person you're tipping.

Then you get some immature fuck who thinks it's funny to break that glass. It was pouring down rain... so it's just sheer LUCK that someone a) wasn't UNDER the glass at the time, and b) didn't slip on that wet marble floor and break their neck or worse, get killed from their skull hitting the marble.

So the Westin has to call in a team to do an high-cost *emergency* repair, with high-cost high-altitude (risk factor) work, during the rain, on wet marble floors. The glass most likely had to be custom cut during the night - glass shops don't keep panes that size around on stock and generally you can't get them shipped in a matter of a few hours.
So it's emergency, high-risk, custom, weekend work.
That cost them one fucking TON of money.

One pane of glass there is probably worth more than what this goof-off that broke it makes in three months - but yeah, it's cool man... >insert Beavis and Butthead laugh<

Stupid fucking shit.
There's this, the entire disgusting pissing thing at the GFY yacht party, the allegations of untested, unprotected, non-talent guys hopping in on the gangbang at the Topbucks party and fucking the talent girls...
You guys really outdid yourselves this time. Gave them a TON of fodder and reasons for not letting Internext come back.

What *really* bugs me is that it's not just newbie webmasters who are doing this stupid, unprofessional shit - it's folks who have been in the biz for a while and know what this kind of shit will do to both their reputation and the industry's.
Thanks a fucking lot.

Jesus Dawgy - probably the same idiot, or someone with him.
Thank goodness no one was hurt. Even if the guy didn't mean to hit you, it's lucky no one got a shard in the eye.

xenigo 08-06-2003 01:44 PM

I got some good video of the security guards busting into the room and looking for someone to haul away... GOOD SHIT!! hahaha

BradShaw 08-06-2003 01:46 PM

Someone grow some balls and post his name.

Maybe Westin will not have us back next year, can not imagine it is worth all the hassle. Motel 6 would better suit most of the crowd.

malakajoe 08-06-2003 02:55 PM

Am I way off base..but should the person throwing the party also be held in the same category as the person who threw it?

I heard bottles were thrown the night before into the pool..someone here even said it was close to them. I heard the same room threw the bottles to break the window.

I guess I feel if you allow this type of stuff to happen, you condone it and probably were laughing along with everyone else.

Even though Internext is one big party, how you act there rubs off on how you run your business. Everyone there is a potential customer in some way.

Dildozer 08-06-2003 03:03 PM

Damnit i KNEW i should have gone to internext

kozmo 08-06-2003 05:50 PM

That dumb ass stunt was bullshit. Did any glass fall into the lobby or rooms below? If so, people could have been seriously fucked up or even dead.

Whoever did this should grow some balls and send the Westin a fat check.

rowan 08-06-2003 06:52 PM

Just one thing I've been pondering. Is public sex legal in the USA? If so, does a room full of convention people count as the public? You guys have posted pics of people fucking in front of a large crowd, onto a publically accessable web site...

Am I just being paranoid here, or does that seem like a baaaad idea. :)

Sausage 08-06-2003 07:01 PM

Is Vegas the same kind of kid fest ?

I was looking at going to internext in Jan, but I can get horribly smashed, throw beer bottles, piss on walls, smash windows, and have public sex here in Brisbane without having to spend $5k coming over.

Ketadream 08-06-2003 07:07 PM

Have to agree with Carrie all the way...

Way not cool, just cause where in porn does not mean we get to act like 3rd graders.

...Did i really just say that on GFY...

If the "room full of convention people" are at a private party in a room or building where the general public don't go, then it is not illegal. Public sex is like at a grocery store or on the sidewalk. Most parties at the Internext where in rooms or some club. I've even had sex on the beach (with people watching), which I think most people have at one time or another.

Forget it, you're not backing out.
If I can keep Aga out of trouble, I can definitely keep you out of trouble. :winkwink:

I can't really knock anyone that wants to take life to the extreme, but I see the industry split over things like this -- more "invite-only" functions... There's high art and low art -- both do rather nicely but you won't see any caricatures in the Guggenheim. I've never seen a lion laugh.

asuna 08-06-2003 07:51 PM

Who will rat this idiot out?

Rick Latona 08-06-2003 07:54 PM

The Diplomat will still love us. My hotel bill was 5,000 dollars. I'm sure they were pleased at the business that was done there.

Regarding who did it, he is a super cool guy and more experienced than most of the people who use this board. So the show got a little crazy. Big deal.

Digipimp 08-06-2003 07:59 PM

It's no surprise since this biz is populated by an overwhelming amount of fuckups that couldn't make it do anything else in this world.

SpeakEasy 08-06-2003 07:59 PM

so who knows who did it???? Speak up ....

Digipimp 08-06-2003 08:03 PM

Rick and Aaron already both admitted to knowing who did it so ask them to spill it. They won't because they would rather not out someone they obviously like.

So if the consensus is that this type of shit and the other shit that goes on is acceptable because someone gets out hand and parties hard or whatever bullshit then I guess when I get out of hand and go upside some motherfuckers heads in vegas that will be all good too. Just hope that you're not one of those fuckups that gets out of hand because you'll likely be the one to catch it, and as always I'll never let anyone know it's coming.

Difference between getting out of control, and acting like idiot fuckups.

What is cool or funny about throwing things out? Being drunk is no excuse....people who do stupid shit like this are like this in real life, too...just alcohol gives them an excuse.
