I hope he feels the same way about you two.

Mr.Teen 08-07-2003 09:01 AM

This program will die probably quick, as soon as some people start complaining about the CP it downloads.

Snagglepuss 08-07-2003 09:12 AM

This isn't anything new. Teleport Pro does the same shit and has been around for years. If your site is targeted by anyone you can be acused of hotbotting. Or someone you trade with for that matter. It spiders out.

MattO 08-07-2003 09:26 AM

does anyone have a list of USER-AGENT's of these programs? Pretty simple to block them then, wouldn't it be?

Rick Latona 08-07-2003 09:27 AM

Looks like it is registered to a Michael Stager out of Australia. Does anyone here know him?

most of them you can customize the HTTP Headers to spoof a browser.

Theo 08-07-2003 10:30 AM

I don't think so, the software has nothing to do with what images are on a certain site. I don't see many people buying it for $50, but if this happens, most probably it will trigger the end of free porn, which is good. :) But this will not happen. :)

StuartD 08-07-2003 11:01 AM

Take this one down too while you're at it

http://www.picleecher.com/

afrocreep 08-07-2003 11:09 AM

is that program basically a offline downloader? i mean theres 1000s of legit shareware/freeware etc crap.. just go search tucows or cnet downloads.

i use offline explorer to rip sites and view them on my hd.. hella faster viewing shit than spending forever clicking back and forth and crap.

donger 08-07-2003 11:12 AM

man, wtf. isn't picleecher somehow illegal? the ENTIRE site and business concept is based on hotlinking other peoples images. There has to be some way to shut this jerkoff down. Possibly through crippling lawsuits? :Graucho

Porn picture harvesters have been around for a long time.

I'm not supporting him, but you shouldn't try to assemble a lynch mob to shut the guy down. He's not "stealing" from you. It's a program that goes out and downloads publicly available pictures on the web.

Like in the comments after mine, it's not illegal and they've been around for years. Mainstream and porn oriented ones.

If he was handing out paysite passwords, that would be stealing and someone should be hassling his host to shut him down. Writting a program to gather pictures is something legitimate and shouldn't result in the GFY mob trying to shut someone down.

digifan 08-07-2003 12:47 PM

Yes... legitimate but did you read the users' comments?

let me quote only one

""I downloaded PixRipper three days ago and today cancelled two adult site memberships, saving US$50 per month!" W.T. from Essex (UK).
? W.T. from Essex United Kingdom"

great, isn't it?

Boofucking hoo.. so he is a cheap ass..

I am a super cheap ass who views free pron from tgps, finds something i like then searches on google for other free pics from same set. so sue me?

I also leech from newsgroups.. great, isn't it?

Guess what, i still have managed to sign up to atleast 2 sites dispite being a cheapass, why? because they had something i wanted.

he is from UK,what did you expect? heheh

cluck 08-07-2003 02:24 PM

I'll have to do a little more research on PixRipper and the like, but a good deal of them may be combatted by some crafty coding on our part. There's probably some header or behavior pattern that would determine an image downloader.

On another note, how about a coalition of large TGP owners put this plan of action to work:

Put hidden links on your main pages to a few fake galleries. Make all the "thumbs" on those gallery pages point to images located on the pixripper.com server. Depending on the algorithms used to parse out the images from the HTML, this could be devestating. A pity, really :glugglug

Kappy 08-07-2003 03:16 PM

Whoever thinks these rippers affecting the online porn industry more than the basic tgp concept must be thinking that most tgp freeloaders are beeing interested in the paysites advertised on galleries.

Which is not the case!

That comment was most likely made up.

And don't get me wrong, i don't AGREE with what he is doing and think it's a great idea. But he really is doing nothing wrong, so trying to get him shut down isn't the right response.

The correct response, like other said, is finding a way to protect yourself from things like this, as they will never go away.

fiveyes 08-07-2003 03:38 PM

Natural consequence of circle jerks masquerading as thumb gallery posts.
