Largest Europe Net Service Brings In Match.com
FRANKFURT - European Internet giant T-Online International will offer online dating powered by Match.com - the Net dating powerhouse created by now-Sex.com owner Gary Kremen - beginning at the end of August.
T-Online plans to integrate Match.com's database of 200,000 German users with paid advertisements into the T-Online portal site while letting T-Online subscribers file their own ads, according to Reuters. Online dating emerged in the U.S. in the 19990s and has only recently caught hold in Europe, with Terra Lycos, Yahoo, and others appealing to Europeans seeking partners. T-Online says revenues of their new dating services would be shared with Match.com, Reuters reported, but the financial details of the deal weren't revealed. Match.com was founded by Kremen in the mid-1990s, before he sold it and turned to developing - and, as it turned out, fighting to recover from a cyberjacker - Sex.com. Match.com is now part of InterActive Corp and is the top online dating service in the U.S. and Britain, with nine million members around the world, Reuters said. Charles Farrar |
