How important is google page rank
 

Hi, I get tons of requests for hard coded link exchanges but I'm reluctant to take any of 'em up as most sites that request exchanges only have a google page rank of 1 or 2 and I have page ranks of 4 and 5. I'd like the increase in traffic but is worth it at the expense of page rank.

Does anyone have the math of how google arrives @ page ranking?

there are many different factors that are involved in calculating PR.. some of it comes from the median PR of all your backlinks.

As a general rule exchanging with them wont adversly affect your page rank. It will simply improve it little if at all if they are very low PR themselves.

you shouldnt care too much, if the site is quality then it will be good for you - your pr will push them and you receive pr back..
