Question about MiniDV to MPG

Hi,

I'm hoping some of you video experts can help me out... I bought Vegas 4.0 to capture and edit my videos, but I can't seem to get the quality/size the way I want it when crunching it to MPG-1 . Should I purchase something like Sorenson Squeeze for the compression? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think that you will ever get both quality and small file size with off the shelf MPG compression software.

You will get either one or the other unless you send your video out to be professionaly encoded.

All mpeg-1 encoders are generally the same, cause this format is quite old and have some certain limitations. Don't waste your money with sorenson - read and learn by yourself, just try several bitrates and choose the best on your own behalf.

If you need more help email me at [email protected] and I will try to help :-)

Thanks for the reply...what do you charge for DV to MPG? Also, I'm going to go buy a Sony vx2000 tomorrow, so hopefully having a better source will make the end product better as well...

Pro will encode it the very same way like everyone else, mpeg1 is too old format and noone can do miracles with it.

Good choice of camcorder! :thumbsup And, yes, the better the source material you have to work with, the better the end result will be. Not sure what you were working with before, but if it wasn't a 3-chip cam, you're in for a treat!
